Stephen Strasburg allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over six innings as the Washington Nationals posted a 3-1 road triumph over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday in the season finale for both teams.

Ian Desmond collected his 11th and 12th RBIs in September with a two-run single in the fifth inning for the Nationals (80-81). Roger Bernadina provided insurance with an RBI single in the eighth as Washington won for the 14th time in 18 games to finish in third place in the National League East.

Prior to the contest, the Marlins introduced former Chicago White Sox skipper Ozzie Guillen as their new manager for the 2012 campaign. Current skipper Jack McKeon, 80, announced on Monday that he was retiring at the end of this season.

Making his fifth start since coming off the disabled list following Tommy John surgery, Strasburg (1-1) allowed Gaby Sanchez's single to center field in the second before silencing Florida for the next four innings.

Sanchez added a two-out RBI double in the seventh for Florida (72-90), which lost five of its last six to close the season in the NL East basement.

Winless since July 10, Chris Volstad (5-13) suffered the hard-luck loss after permitting two runs on three hits in six innings.

The contest was Florida's last at Sun Life Stadium, which has been home to the club since it debuted in 1993. Next season, the Marlins will play in a ballpark with a retractable roof in downtown Miami.
