Anibal Sanchez took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and struck out 11 as the Florida Marlins avoided a three-game sweep with an 8-0 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals on Sunday.
Gaby Sanchez belted a three-run homer and Greg Dobbs added a pair of RBI doubles for the Marlins, who welcome the first-place Phillies to South Florida on Monday for an NL East showdown.
After taking a no hitter into the ninth inning on April 22, Anibal Sanchez (2-1) struck out five of the first seven batters he faced and cruised through the first six innings, allowing only two base runners on an error and a hit-by-pitch. Laynce Nix broke up the no hitter in the seventh, leading off the frame with a single.
The victorious hurler would last seven innings, surrendering two hits and no walks.
Livan Hernandez (3-4) had no such luck on the other side, yielding single runs in the second and fourth and then getting knocked around during a four-run rally in the fifth - capped by Gaby Sanchez’s fifth blast.
Gaby Sanchez added two doubles and scored three runs in a 4-for-4 day.
