Mike Stanton's two-run home run in the ninth inning gave the Florida Marlins an 8-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday at Busch Stadium.

Jon Jay hit a solo home run in the ninth for St. Louis, but Marlins closer Leo Nunez got National League-leading hitter Matt Holliday to ground into a double play to end the game and earn his 11th save.

Mike Dunn (2-1) pitched two perfect innings in relief for the win. Marlins starter Javier Vazquez allowed six runs — four earned — on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Rookie Eduardo Sanchez (1-1) allowed Stanton's home run in the ninth to suffer his first loss.

Holliday had two hits for the Cardinals to lift his average to .413. Emilio Bonifacio was 3-for-5 and Chris Coghlan and Gaby Sanchez added two hits apiece for Florida.

St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter allowed six runs - three earned - and 10 hits in six innings.
