Rick Porcello cruised through 6 1/3 innings and Miguel Cabrera doubled among three hits as the Detroit Tigers inched closer to an American League Central Division title with a 10-1 triumph over the host Cleveland Indians on Tuesday.

Victor Martinez drove in three and Jhonny Peralta chipped in two RBIs for the Tigers, who have won five straight to increase their lead to 8 1/2 games over both the Indians and the Chicago White Sox.

Detroit’s magic number to clinch the division is down to 14.

The Tigers took the suspense out of the game early on Tuesday, pushing across five runs in the first and three more in the second. Martinez, Peralta, Don Kelly and Ramon Santiago each hit RBI singles in the first and Cabrera doubled in a run with one out in the second, ending the night for Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (6-14).

Porcello (13-8) had his sinker working, allowing one hit through the first six innings while inducing 13 groundouts. The righthander ended up yielding one run on three hits.

Kosuke Fukudome hit a solo homer for the Indians, who have dropped four of six this month.
