Matt Treanor's go-ahead, two-run single in the sixth inning lifted the host Kansas City Royals to a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.

With the bases loaded, Treanor delivered a one-out hit to right center against Jake Peavy (4-4) to score Billy Butler and Jeff Francoeur and give the Royals a 3-2 lead. Kansas City's Melky Cabrera added a solo homer in the seventh against Chris Sale.

Kansas City's Danny Duffy (2-4) matched a career long with seven innings. He allowed two runs, five hits and struck out six.

Greg Holland pitched a perfect eighth to hold the lead for Joakim Soria, who allowed a one-out single to Gordon Beckham before earning his 17th save after A.J Pierzynski hit into a game-ending double play.

Peavy allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings for the White Sox, who took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Carlos Quentin and Alex Rios.
