Marlins starter Andrew Miller (1-3) didn’t make it out of the second inning, allowing five earned runs on three hits to go along with four walks. Brett Sinkbeil came on in relief and didn’t do much better, walking in three more runs over 2/3 of an inning.

Samardzija (2-1) gave up three runs and two homers while walking three and striking out four.

Jeff Baker was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Chicago. Bobby Scales and Brad Snyder both had two RBIs. Welington Castillo added a two-run homer, his first of the year in the ninth.

Dan Uggla hit his 31st home run of the year, a two-run shot in the fourth inning, for Florida. Hector Luna added his second homer of the season when he came on as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth.
