Chris Young homered and tied a career high by driving in five runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks scored three runs apiece in four separate innings of a 12-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Miguel Montero and Mark Reynolds each drove in a pair of runs and Kelly Johnson and Tony Abreu added an RBI each as Arizona won its first game with Kirk Gibson at the helm.
Manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Josh Byrnes were fired by the club late Thursday following a 31-48 start to the season.
The outburst was good enough for Edwin Jackson, who wasn’t particularly sharp in his first start since tossing a no-hitter against Tampa Bay. The right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings to take the win. He walked three and struck out four.
Arizona jumped out to a three-run lead in the first and led 9-3 after three innings. Much of the damage came against starter Hiroki Kuroda (7-6), who was tagged for eight runs and six hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
Blake DeWitt had a pair of hits and three RBIs and James Loney finished with three hits and drove in two runs for Los Angeles.
