Alex Gonzalez homered twice and Vernon Wells had one of his own to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 10-2 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

Gonzalez’s first home run, a three-run shot, came in the second inning and gave the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead.

Oakland cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth but the Blue Jays made it 5-2 on a two-run single by John Buck in the bottom of the inning.

Wells, who finished with three hits, belted his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning to make it 7-2. Gonzalez then hit his seventh homer of the season to lead off the sixth inning.

Brandon Morrow (2-2) picked up the win in allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings. Among the league leaders in strikeouts, Morrow fanned nine.

The Blue Jays’ bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.

Trevor Cahill (0-1) took the loss and was charged with six earned runs on seven hits in five innings in his first start of the season since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento.
