Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back homers as the New York Yankees routed the Oakland Athletics 11-5 at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.

Teixeira, Cano and Nick Swisher all had three hits in the game as the Yankees remained tied with Tampa Bay atop the American League East.

Trevor Cahill, who entered the game with the second-lowest ERA in the AL, was hit hard in the loss. Cahill (14-6) allowed eight runs on nine hits in four-plus innings.

Javier Vazquez (10-9) picked up the win in relief of Dustin Moseley, who failed to last five innings. Vazquez, moved to the bullpen recently because of ineffectiveness, went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and just one run.

Oakland scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Jack Cust had a sacrifice fly and Jeff Larish, who also homered in the game, followed with a two-run single. New York came right back with three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run double by Swisher.

The Yankees took the lead for good on Teixeira’s 29th homer and Cano’s 26th in the third inning. New York pounded out 13 hits in the game.

Marcus Thames continued his torrid pace at the plate with a three-run homer in a five-run fifth inning that broke the game open. Thames has six homers in the last six games.
