C.J. Wilson tossed a complete game and the Texas Rangers scored four runs off Zack Greinke and held on for a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday.
Wilson (3-1) out-performed Greinke, the reigning American League Cy Young winner, allowing five hits and striking out four on 113 pitches.
The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Vladimir Guerrero roped Greinke’s first pitch over the left-field fence to lead off the inning and David Murphy scored after Royals shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt dropped a routine popup with two outs.
The Rangers added single runs in the third and fourth innings, proving to be plenty of cushion for Wilson.
Greinke (0-4) remained winless, despite going seven innings and allowing four runs - three earned - on nine hits with three strikeouts. The right-hander has yet to reach the win column despite an ERA under 3.00.
The Royals scored their lone run in the third when Betancourt reached on an infield single and scored on Billy Butler’s RBI single.
