Nelson Cruz hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the 14th inning and the Texas Rangers handed the Detroit Tigers a sixth straight loss with a 8-6 triumph on Monday.
Cruz finished 3-for-6 with four RBIs in helping the Rangers overcome a huge night from Miguel Cabrera, who homered twice and drove in three runs.
Ian Kinsler homered and drove in three runs for Texas, which has won four of five since the All-Star break.
With the game tied at 6-6, Josh Hamilton drew a one-out walk and Cruz followed with an opposite field shot to right that just cleared the fence off Enrique Gonzalez (0-1), the Tigers’ fifth reliever working his second inning.
Neftali Feliz then closed it out for his 25th save in 27 chances.
The unsung hero for Texas was Matt Harrison (2-1), who allowed four hits in four scoreless innings after Detroit tied it in the eighth on an RBI single from Johnny Damon.
Magglio Ordonez homered for Detroit, which left the bases loaded in the 11th. A base running error by Damon denied the Tigers a walk-off win in the inning as he misread the ball off the bat and couldn't score from second on a single to right-center.
