DETROIT -- Scott Podsednik had four hits and three RBIs as Kansas City snapped Detroit's four-game winning with a 10-5 victory at Comerica Park Monday afternoon.
The Royals pounded out 15 hits on the day. David DeJesus had three hits and four other Royals had a pair of hits. Podsednik raised his average to .444 on the season.
Luke Hochevar (1-0) picked up the victory. He allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks over five-plus innings. Three Royal relievers combined for four scoreless innings. The Royals bullpen blew saves in all three games of season-opening series between the two teams last week.
Jose Guillen capped a four-run fourth inning with a two-run homer that gave the Royals a 4-2 lead they never relinquished. It was Guillen's third home run in the past two games.
Detroit took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI grounder by Magglio Ordonez. The Tigers also scored another run on the play following an error by Chris Getz.
Max Scherzer (0-1) took the loss allowing two earned runs on nine hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out three. Scherzer and a pair of Detroit relievers were victimized by shoddy fielding. The Tigers made four errors in the game that led to five unearned runs.
