Luke Hochevar pitched a complete game and Alberto Callaspo and Jose Guillen homered to give the Kansas City Royals a 9-3 win and sweep of the brief two-game series against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
Hochevar (4-2) struck out seven while allowing just four hits and was charged with three runs to beat the stumbling Indians, who have lost four straight.
It was the third career complete game for Hochevar, who had dropped his previous three starts against the Indians. He allowed a pair of singles in the first inning before retiring 15 of the next 16 hitters.
Callaspo and Guillen each finished with a pair of hits and drove in three runs as Kansas City won for the fourth time in five games.
Indians starter Mitch Talbot (5-3) struggled through his worst start of the season, allowing six runs on eight hits with three walks. The big blow was Callaspo’s three-run homer in the third, part of a four-run inning that put the Royals up 6-1.
Jhonny Peralta hit his third homer for the Indians, a two-run shot in the sixth
