Alberto Callaspo belted a three-run homer and Zack Grienke finally got into the win column for the Kansas City Royals in Thursday’s 6-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Grienke (1-4), the reigning American League Cy Young winner, had yet to record a win in eight starts coming in. He allowed three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts in six innings to get off the snide.
Joakim Soria closed out the ninth for his eighth save.
Callaspo’s blast in the fourth inning tied it at 3-3. The Royals extended the advantage to 6-3 on a David DeJesus RBI single and Billy Butler’s double in the fifth, and Yuniesky Betancourt’s double in the sixth.
Cleveland starter David Huff (1-5) was tagged for six runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.
The Indians grabbed a three-run lead thanks to three runs in the third as Austin Kearns, Jhonny Peralta and Matt LaPorta each brought in a run.
