SAN FRANCISCO -- When Rubby De La Rosa works down, the Arizona Diamondbacks' fortunes go up.

That's what happened on Sunday as the Diamondbacks swept a three-game series at AT&T Park for the first time in nearly seven seasons with a 4-0 victory thanks to the strong right arm of De La Rosa.

"We came in and played good baseball," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. "We pitched well and we've proven our offense can score runs. We put the two together."

No one put it all together more than De La Rosa (5-3), who set a career high for wins and strikeouts while pitching into the ninth inning. He scattered six singles before surrendering a double and single and exiting in the final frame.

De La Rosa struck out six and walked two. His two-seem grip had the ball moving down, and that turned into four rally-killing double plays for the Giants.

"This is what he can do, we've seen he has this kind of stuff and he put it together today," Hale said. "He stuck with what Welington (Castillo) called, there was very little shaking off. His infield helped him out. When he needed ground balls, he got them and we turned them."

Right-hander Daniel Hudson earned his first career save by striking out shortstop Brandon Crawford, walking third baseman Casey McGehee and inducing pinch-hitter Buster Posey to hit into a double play to cap Arizona's first sweep in San Francisco since July 25-27, 2007.

"He's one of the greats of the game right now, he always seems to have a flair for the dramatics so we're just thinking keep the ball down we've got a shot," Hale said of Posey. "Get one up to him and it could be a tie game."

San Francisco hit into five doubles plays in all while losing for the eighth straight time at AT&T Park. The Giants have been outscored by a 40-16 margin during the home losing stretch.

"We've been through this, this year and in the past," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of his team's struggles at home. "This was one of our uglier games, there's no getting around that."

Right-hander Chris Heston (6-5) followed up Tuesday's no-hitter against the New York Mets by allowing three runs (two earned) and seven hits in five innings.

"I was a little too aggressive too often," Heston said. "I just got away from the strike zone that one inning and it cost me a lot of pitches."

Arizona took a 1-0 lead when third baseman Jake Lamb doubled and scored on a throwing error by Crawford in the second. The Diamondbacks added two runs in the fifth on a two-run double by second baseman Chris Owings and scored their final run on a sacrifice fly by center fielder A.J. Pollock.

That was plenty of support for their 26-year-old starter, who was acquired from Boston in the offseason. De La Rosa now has 77 strikeouts in 82 innings. His previous high was 74 in 101.2 for Boston last year.

"I felt good, I worked down," De La Rosa said. "The rhythm was good."

"Sometimes he thinks too much, we just want to simplify it for him," Hale added. "He has great stuff. Sometimes it's concentration. Today he did a good job with that."

NOTES: C Buster Posey and CF Angel Pagan were not in the starting lineup Sunday as Giants manager Bruce Bochy shuffled the deck hoping to find offense from a team that logged a .135 batting average over three games. Rookie RF Jarrett Parker got a second straight start, batting seventh, while OF Justin Maxwell moved to center in place of Pagan and C Andrew Susac played in place of Posey. Productive SS Brandon Crawford hit in the cleanup spot, and 3B Casey McGehee batted fifth and started in place of rookie Matt Duffy. ... Four of Arizona's five current starting pitchers were acquired by trade in the offseason, including Sunday's starter Rubby De La Rosa. ... The Giants next host the Seattle Mariners, whom they have not faced since 2012. ... The Diamondbacks visit Anaheim to play the Angels for the eighth
