Blue Jays 7, Pirates 2: Colby Ramsus smacked a grand slam and Melky Cabrera hit a two-run shot as visiting Toronto defeated Pittsburgh to salvage the finale of the three-game series.
Rasmus and Cabrera each had three hits as the Blue Jays won for just the third time in 11 games. Dustin McGowan (2-1) allowed just one run and three hits in seven innings.
Toronto loaded the bases in the second on two walks and an infield single before Rasmus knocked a curveball from Edinson Volquez (1-3) well over the right-field wall to make it 4-1. Jose Reyes doubled to start the fifth and Cabrera followed with his shot to right-center.
Josh Harrison had two triples and scored both runs for the Pirates, who have yet to win three consecutive games this season. Neil Walker knocked Harrison in with a grounder in the first and Andrew McCutchen’s sacrifice fly plated him in the eighth.
Dioner Navarro had a run-scoring pinch-hit single in the top of the eighth for Toronto. The grand slam was the fourth of Rasmus’ career.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Volquez allowed six runs and seven hits in five innings. … The Blue Jays optioned OF Anthony Gose to Triple-A Buffalo and recalled RHP Marcus Stroman, who allowed a run in the eighth inning in his major-league debut. … Pirates manager Clint Hurdle and first-base coach Rick Sofield were both ejected at the end of the fourth inning for contesting balls and strikes.
