Pirates 5, Mets 2:
Pedro Alvarez homered and drove in three runs as host Pittsburgh took three of four from New York.

Ike Davis had two hits and two RBIs against his former team to back six scoreless innings from Edinson Volquez (6-6) to lift the Pirates to their seventh win in nine games. Volquez struck out a season-high seven and scattered eight hits before closer Mark Melancon was forced to come on and get the final out for his 15th save.

Bartolo Colon (8-6) had his six-game winning streak snapped, getting tagged for five runs on seven hits to absorb his first defeat since May 6. Daniel Murphy went 3-for-5 and Ruben Tejada was among four players with two hits and delivered an RBI single for New York, which stranded 11 runners and did not score until Chris Young's groundout in the ninth.

Pittsburgh came out swinging against Colon in its first at-bat with a single from Starling Marte and double by Neil Walker before Davis singled home both runners for his first hit in 15 at-bats against the Mets. Alvarez added an RBI double later in the inning for a 3-0 edge.

After New York couldn't convert with runners at the corners in the third and fourth innings, Alvarez extended the lead in fourth with a towering two-run shot to deep right off Colon, who entered with a 4-1 mark and 1.22 ERA versus the Pirates. New York failed to get three runners home from third with less than two outs before making it interesting in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Alvarez finished 6-for-12 in the series and is 10-for-21 this season against New York. ... Mets 3B David Wright missed his third straight game with a bruised left rotation cuff and will be re-examined Monday to determine whether a stint on the disabled list is necessary. ... Pittsburgh, which continues its 10-game homestand versus Arizona on Tuesday, drew a franchise-record 150,819 fans for a four-game series. The Mets head to Atlanta to open a three-game set on Monday.
