Pirates 5, Dodgers 3: Andrew McCutchen homered among his three hits and scored three runs while Pedro Alvarez collected three RBIs to help visiting Pittsburgh take three of four in the series against Los Angeles.

Josh Harrison added an insurance run with a solo blast in the seventh inning and Edinson Volquez (3-4) allowed two runs over five frames en route to his first win in five road starts. Three relievers bridged the gap to Jason Grilli, who allowed a two-out RBI single by Scott Van Slyke in the ninth before retiring Dee Gordon for his eighth save of the season and third in the series.

Alvarez began the scoring with a two-out, two-run single in the first against Zack Greinke (8-2), who yielded four runs while striking out seven over six innings. Justin Turner answered with an RBI single in the second and belted a solo homer in the fourth for the Dodgers, who lost a series to the Pirates in Los Angeles for the first time since Sept. 19-21, 2006.

The Pirates moved ahead 4-2 in the sixth as McCutchen hit a leadoff double and later scored from third on Alvarez’s single off Greinke, who was looking to become the National League’s first nine-game winner. McCutchen finished with three extra-base hits after collecting a total of six in 28 games last month.

Greinke allowed four earned runs for the first time since July 25 for Los Angeles. Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 and has reached base in 33 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the majors.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez went 0-for-3 after going 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs in Saturday’s 12-2 win. … Pittsburgh traded RHP Bryan Morris to Miami and recalled RHP Casey Sadler from Triple-A Indianapolis. … Turner has scored at least one run in each of his last eight starts, the longest streak by a Dodger this season.
