Indians 2, White Sox 0: Justin Masterson scattered four hits in 7 1/3 innings for his first victory since Aug. 21 as host Cleveland made it two straight over Chicago.

Masterson (1-1), who went 0-2 over his last 11 regular-season appearances, struck out six and Nick Swisher recorded a sacrifice fly for the Indians. Cody Allen fanned major league home run leader Jose Abreu with runners on second and third to end the eighth inning and John Axford worked a perfect ninth to earn his ninth save in 10 chances.

Scott Carroll (1-1) yielded two unearned runs, five hits and walked one in six innings in his second major-league start for Chicago, which lost its eighth straight game in Cleveland and is 4-20 in its last 24 overall meetings with the Indians. Adam Dunn had two hits as the White Sox dropped their fourth straight contest.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the second when Lonnie Chisenhall led off with a double and scored as third baseman Marcus Semien dropped David Murphy's pop-up near the mound with two outs. Chicago loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on an error, walk and hit batsman before Semien lined into an inning-ending double play.

Cleveland made it 2-0 in the fifth when Jose Ramirez reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error by catcher Tyler Flowers, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Swisher's sacrifice fly. Dunn led off the seventh with a double, but ran into an out at third after trying to advance on a grounder to shortstop.
