Tigers 4, Orioles 1: Miguel Cabrera slugged a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and Victor Martinez followed with a solo shot to lift visiting Detroit to a dramatic win over Baltimore.

Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez yielded three singles and struck out seven in seven scoreless innings as the Orioles took a 1-0 lead into the ninth, but Alex Avila led off with a base hit against Tommy Hunter (1-1) and pinch runner Rajai Davis stole second. Hunter got the next two outs before issuing a walk and then hanging a 1-0 breaking ball to Cabrera, who launched his sixth home run of the year out to left-center to make it 3-1.

Martinez hammered the next offering from Hunter out of the park in right for his ninth blast, chasing the Baltimore closer and giving Joe Nathan an extra insurance run en route to his ninth save. Tigers starter Drew Smyly allowed a run in six solid innings and Justin Miller tossed two scoreless frames (1-0) for the win as Detroit took a 4-1 lead in the season series.

Adam Jones provided the offense for the Orioles with a solo shot off Smyly in the first. Jimenez struck out the side in the sixth and did not allow a runner to reach second base until the seventh, which ended when Baltimore turned one of its three double plays.

Davis was initially ruled out on his steal attempt in the ninth before a lengthy review overturned the call. Hunter got Don Kelly to line to shortstop and Ian Kinsler to line to center and was ahead 1-2 on Torii Hunter before issuing the free pass and setting things up for two-time MVP Cabrera to put the Tigers on top.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Tommy Hunter has given up eight earned runs in 3 1/3 innings over his last four outings. ... Tigers 2B Ian Kinsler went 0-for-4 and had his seven-game hitting streak come to an end. ... The Orioles are expected to call up No. 2 prospect RH Kevin Gausman to pitch the finale of the series Wednesday afternoon.
