Preview Roundups
December 16, 2016
NY Islanders at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres play eight games in the final 16 days of the calendar year — all against teams they are battling in the crowded Eastern Conference playoff race. Buffalo looks to start that important stretch the right way and move over .500 for the first time since Nov. 5 when it hosts the inconsistent New York Islanders on Friday night.
Los Angeles at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins are averaging a robust 5.6 goals in December and look to extend their winning streak to eight games when the stingy Los Angeles Kings pay a visit Friday night. Captain Sidney Crosby (nine-game point streak) and fellow forward Evgeni Malkin (16 points, 10 games) lead the way for the Penguins, who have also won six straight at home to take over first place in the loaded Metropolitan Division.
San Jose at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens will look to avoid losing consecutive games at home for the first time since March when they host the San Jose Sharks on Friday night. Montreal has lost only once in regulation and three times overall at the Bell Centre this season after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to bitter rival Boston on Monday night.
Washington at Carolina 7:30 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have won a season high-tying five in a row and recorded at least a point in 21 of 28 games to inexplicably find themselves in fifth place in the top-heavy Metropolitan Division. Last season's Presidents' Trophy recipients look to improve their standing at the expense of a division foe on Friday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes.
Florida at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The struggling Colorado Avalanche host another team in dire need of a victory Friday when the road-weary Florida Panthers pay a visit. The Avalanche are 2-7-1 over their last 10 games and dropped to last in the league with 23 points, but did rebound from an embarrassing loss with a victory at Toronto before suffering a 4-3 setback against red-hot Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Columbus at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets have matched a franchise record with seven wins in a row and secured at least a point in 14 of their last 15 contests (12-1-2) to highlight the best start in team's history. The Blue Jackets look to avenge their lone regulation misstep in that stretch on Friday when they visit the Calgary Flames, who saw journeyman Chad Johnson make 34 saves in a 2-0 triumph on Nov. 23.
Tampa Bay at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning get a chance to avenge one of their worst performances during a recent dispiriting eight-game stretch when they visit the struggling Vancouver Canucks on Friday. The Lightning went 1-6-1 - including a 5-1 loss against Vancouver at home Dec. 8 - before starting a three-game trip to Western Canada with a solid victory over Calgary on Wednesday.
