Preview Roundups
December 13, 2016
Los Angeles at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings play the first of a staggering nine straight games on the road Tuesday when they visit the Buffalo Sabres. Coach Darryl Sutter's club boasts a 7-1-2 mark in its last 10 contests as Los Angeles heads to western New York to open a stretch that spans past the Christmas break and ends on New Year's Eve with a home game versus Pacific Division-rival San Jose.
Washington at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have won four in a row to keep pace with the other surging teams in the Metropolitan, but the performance of Barry Trotz's club versus the representatives in the division has left plenty to be desired. Sporting just a 2-4-2 mark against their Metro rivals, the Capitals look to get it in gear on Tuesday when they visit the cellar-dwelling New York Islanders.
Chicago at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks are each receiving superb play from their backup goaltenders over the past three games. New York's Antti Raanta, who was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week, bested Chicago's Scott Darling in a 1-0 overtime victory on Friday night - a loss the Blackhawks look to avenge when they visit the Rangers on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
Vancouver at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes can point to a number of reasons why they are struggling to stay out of the cellar in the Metropolitan Division, but a schedule that features the fewest home games and the most road contests in the league certainly hasn't helped. The Hurricanes will open a four-game homestand when they host the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.
San Jose at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks have flipped the script on last season's formula for success, posting an impressive 10-4-0 mark at home while answering a franchise-best 28 road wins last season with a 6-7-1 record in 2016. The Sharks look to alter their fortunes away from home on Tuesday when they open a four-game road trip against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Arizona at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings are in the middle of the hunt for an Eastern Conference playoff spot and are still searching for consistency in the offensive end. The Red Wings attempt to a jump-start an offense ranked near the bottom of the NHL in several categories when they host the struggling Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night after losing the first two contests of a five-game homestand.
St. Louis at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues will wrap up a four-game road trip when they visit the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night in a matchup of Central Division rivals. St. Louis was on an 8-1-1 tear prior to dropping two of three games on the road trip to drop to 4-8-1 away from home, including a 3-1 setback at Nashville on Nov. 10.
Florida at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild are on their best roll of the season and hope to continue riding the wave when they host the scuffling Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. The Wild have allowed six goals during their four-game winning streak and gained at least a point in all five December games (4-0-1) after knocking off St. Louis 3-1 on Sunday.
Anaheim at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Stars are spinning their wheels rather than contending for the Central Division lead as they start a five-game homestand Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks. "This will be the season for us, I really feel. For me, I think all of the season is going to land on this homestand,'' Dallas coach Lindy Ruff told reporters after a 3-1 setback at Chicago on Sunday dropped the Stars 12 points behind the first-place Blackhawks and gave them 10 losses in their last 15 games (5-7-3).
Columbus at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets are having a tough time climbing the ladder in the Metropolitan Division despite winning six in a row and recording a 7-0-1 mark in their last eight games. With the ultra-competitive division boasting five of the top seven teams in terms of points, the fourth-place Blue Jackets look to continue their successful ways on Tuesday when they open a three-game road trip against the Edmonton Oilers.
