Preview Roundups
December 10, 2016
Dallas at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers look to win eight in a row for the first time in 14 years on Saturday afternoon when they conclude a three-game homestand versus the Dallas Stars. Coach Dave Hakstol's charges have scored and allowed goals at an alarming pace this season -- with an NHL third-best 3.21 per game on offense and league third-worst 3.10 on defense -- Thursday's wild 6-5 victory over Edmonton provided a snapshot of the Flyers' fortunes at both ends of the ice.
Ottawa at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings look to snap a pair of losing skids on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators in the finale of a three-game homestand. Los Angeles has dropped three in a row at Staples Center and five straight to Ottawa, including a heartbreaking loss in Canada's capital city on Nov. 11 as Mark Stone scored with seven seconds remaining in the third period of a 2-1 win.
Toronto at Boston 7:00 PM ET
Among the reasons the Boston Bruins failed to qualify for the postseason in 2015-16 was a lack of success at home, a trend that has carried over to this season. The Bruins will try to avert a third consecutive defeat overall and avoid dropping to .500 at TD Garden when they host the slumping Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Colorado at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens already have lost a pair of key players to injury in the past week, but they received some good news upon learning that their franchise goaltender will not be punished for an on-ice outburst Thursday. Montreal looks to improve on its NHL-best 13-1-1 home record when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins were unstoppable during a four-game winning streak and look to stay hot when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday in a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference final. Pittsburgh boasts 24 goals during a 4-0-0 stretch without much help from their power play and face a Lightning squad struggling to keep the puck out of its net.
Vancouver at Florida 7:00 PM ET
Florida Panthers fans were quick to vent their frustration toward Tom Rowe as the team's general manager/interim coach stood behind the bench in his home debut on Thursday. With Rowe clearly in the eye of the storm, the Panthers look to snap a four-game skid and are in search of just their second win in eight outings on Saturday when they host the Vancouver Canucks.
NY Islanders at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders built a six-game point streak to climb over .500 for the first time this season and the next challenge is to make up some ground in the loaded Metropolitan Division. The Islanders, who are 2-6-1 on the road, try to continue their ascent when they visit the sizzling-hot Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
Nashville at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators received a combination of strong goaltending and tight defense throughout the month of November but both have been in short supply over the past four games. The Predators have surrendered 17 goals during a 1-2-1 stretch as they concluded a brief two-game road trip with a visit to the reeling Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.
Winnipeg at Calgary 10:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames have started the month of December in the same dominant fashion as they did last season. After winning their first seven games of the final month of the calendar in 2015, the Flames vie for their fifth straight December victory and sixth overall on Saturday when they open a three-game homestand versus the Winnipeg Jets.
Carolina at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes aren't much of a road team this season (4-7-6), but are taking the West Coast by storm as they roll into San Jose to meet the Sharks on Saturday night. Carolina, which hasn't posted a winning campaign away from home since 2005-06, began its three-game swing through the Golden State by blowing a late two-goal lead en route to a 6-5 shootout loss in Anaheim on Wednesday before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory in Los Angeles on Thursday.
