Preview Roundups
December 09, 2014
Chicago at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
Winners of six in a row and nine of 10, the Chicago Blackhawks could be in for even more good news when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Coach Joel Quenneville told reporters following Monday's practice that he expects the return of Patrick Sharp from a 14-game absence due to a lower-body injury.
Philadelphia at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets appear to have put a lengthy slump behind them and the Philadelphia Flyers would like to do the same when they close out a five-game road trip in Columbus on Tuesday. Even though the Flyers have won only twice in 12 contests (2-8-2), they showed signs of breaking out of their doldrums on the California portion of their trek. Philadelphia ended a nine-game road losing streak with Saturday's 2-1 win at Los Angeles.
Los Angeles at Buffalo 7:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings have been among the league's worst teams away from home, but the reigning Stanley Cup champions get a chance to turn things around when they open a five-game road trip at the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Los Angeles has managed only three wins in 11 road games (3-4-4), although it posted an impressive 4-0 victory at Arizona on Thursday. The teams met earlier this season in Los Angeles, with the Kings prevailing 2-0.
Calgary at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
Coach Bob Hartley is keeping the bigger picture in sight as his Calgary Flames hit the road to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. "The first four games are on the road and this is not an easy trip. There won't be easy trips," Hartley said of his team, which is just 4-17-1 in its last 22 visits to Toronto. "We want to be a playoff team. There is no sense putting whipped cream on everything. It's down to business and every game is going to be tough."
Vancouver at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens look to turn around their recent fortunes when they begin a five-game homestand against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Montreal has lost three straight and is 1-5-1 in its last seven, tumbling to third in the Atlantic Division. A long homestand could be just what the Canadiens need as they enter the contest with a 9-3-1 mark at Bell Centre.
Washington at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have won two straight games in regulation for the first time this season and look to build on that when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. The Capitals can sweep a three-game road trip after allowing one goal each in victories at Carolina and New Jersey despite former Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin going four games without a point. The Lightning should be more focused after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Columbus – their third regulation defeat in 15 home games.
NY Islanders at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild hope to have their top defenseman back in the lineup when they wrap up their four-game homestand against the New York Islanders on Tuesday. Ryan Suter, who is tied for the team lead with 12 assists, is expected to return after missing two contests with mumps. Minnesota fell to 1-1-1 on the homestand by dropping a 5-4 decision to Anaheim on Friday.
Winnipeg at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets are riding a six-game point streak but will be without one of their key players when they visit the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night. Forward Evander Kane was handed a two-game suspension by the NHL for a boarding penalty in Sunday's game versus Anaheim, when he drove Clayton Stoner face-first into the glass. Winnipeg is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Ducks but is 4-0-2 over its last six games.
Nashville at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
After dropping three in a row, the Colorado Avalanche received some disappointing news heading into the opener of a three-game homestand against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Semyon Varlamov re-injured his groin during Monday's practice and already has been ruled out by coach Patrick Roy. Calvin Pickard is expected to be recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League and get the nod in the absence of Varlamov, who had played in two games after missing six with his groin issue.
Edmonton at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers seek their first winning streak in a month as they attempt to sweep the home-and-home series when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. Edmonton snapped its 11-game losing streak (0-7-4) in impressive fashion Sunday, posting a 2-1 victory over San Jose at Rexall Place. David Perron scored midway through the third period to snap a tie for the Oilers, who haven't registered consecutive wins since defeating Buffalo and the New York Rangers on the road on Nov. 7 and 9.
