Preview Roundups
November 23, 2016
Winnipeg at Minnesota 7:00 PM ET
At least the Minnesota Wild earned a point Monday despite another morbid performance from their offense, which looks to get on track Wednesday when the struggling Winnipeg Jets come to Minneapolis. The Wild rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits before succumbing 3-2 in overtime at Dallas on Monday and having scored five goals in the past four games, the frustration is building in Minnesota’s locker room.
Detroit at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings are in a major tailspin following a fast start to the season and will look to avoid their second five-game losing streak in 3 1/2 weeks when they visit the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night. The Red Wings have dropped nine of their last 11 games to fall into the cellar in the Atlantic Division -- one point behind Buffalo.
Toronto at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
After coming up empty in California, the New Jersey Devils return to the comforts of home to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. New Jersey kicked off its four-game road trip in fine fashion, topping Dallas in overtime on Nov. 15, but fizzled on the West Coast as it was outscored 11-4 in losses at Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose.
Pittsburgh at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers were ushered out of the playoffs by Pittsburgh in the opening round in 2015-16 and appeared bent on sending a message to the Penguins in their first meeting this season. After erupting for five unanswered goals in a 5-2 win at Pittsburgh on Monday night, the Rangers host the Penguins in a rematch on Wednesday.
St. Louis at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals still are waiting for their offense to get rolling like it did last season and hope to break out when the St. Louis Blues pay them a visit on Wednesday. The Capitals are in the middle of the pack in scoring (2.67 goals per game) and almost in the bottom-third of the league on the power play (15.4 percent) after finishing second and fifth, respectively, in 2015-16.
Calgary at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets have lost just once in regulation since Oct. 27 and look to continue their climb up the standings when they host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. The Blue Jackets are 8-1-2 in their last 11 contests and saw their four-game winning streak come to an end Monday in a 3-2 overtime loss, but rescued something out of it on Cam Atkinson’s goal with 7 seconds left in regulation.
Philadelphia at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning have hit the quarter mark of the season trailing just one team in the Atlantic Division despite two long road trips, some damaging injuries and inconsistent play. The Lightning, who must go on without injured captain Steven Stamkos for the next four months, will try to build off a strong trek when they host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.
Dallas at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators get a chance to avenge their only regulation home loss of the season when they host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday in a matchup of Central Division rivals. The Predators have won four in a row at Bridgestone Arena and own a six-game point streak at home since dropping a 2-1 decision to Dallas on Oct. 18.
Edmonton at Colorado 10:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers are trending in the right direction as each own a two-game winning streak entering their contest in Denver on Wednesday. Colorado completed a 2-1-0 road trip Monday with a 3-2 overtime victory over Columbus, snapping the Blue Jackets' club-record seven-game winning streak at home, while Edmonton crushed Western Conference-leading Chicago 5-0 on Monday.
Vancouver at Arizona 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks have had very little success away from home this season, winning one of their eight games (1-6-1). Vancouver vies for its second win in its last three road contests, however, when it begins a three-game trek Wednesday against the Arizona Coyotes.
Chicago at San Jose 10:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks will try to rebound from a major speed bump in their annual circus road trip when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night in the fifth stop on their seven-game trek. The Blackhawks absorbed their worst loss of the season in a 5-0 setback at Edmonton on Monday, their second shutout loss on the road trip.
NY Islanders at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings look to extend a pair of winning streaks when they host the New York Islanders on Wednesday in the opener of their three-game homestand. Los Angeles has posted four consecutive victories at Staples Center and has won a season-high three straight overall after edging the Pacific Division-rival Ducks 3-2 in Anaheim on Sunday.
