Preview Roundups
November 06, 2014
Edmonton at Boston 7:00 PM ET
Brad Marchand has powered the Boston Bruins to a three-game winning streak, scoring four goals - including two in overtime - and adding two assists in that stretch. The pesky Nova Scotia native, who netted the OT winner in a 2-1 victory over Florida, looks to continue his hot hand when the skidding Edmonton Oilers pay a visit to TD Garden on Thursday. The Bruins won both meetings last season and are 8-0-1 in their last nine home contests against Edmonton.
Florida at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers are trying to overcome a dismal start for the second straight season and go for their fourth consecutive home victory when they face the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. The Flyers will be out to avenge a 2-1 loss at Florida on Saturday night but will have to do so without forward Michael Raffl, who is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after suffering a lower-body injury in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Edmonton.
Minnesota at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild will be without their leading scorer as they begin their three-game road trip against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. Zach Parise, who tops Minnesota with 10 points, will not accompany the team on its trek due to an upper-body injury he suffered in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. Nino Niederreiter provided the only offense with a short-handed goal in the defeat, which concluded a 2-1-0 homestand and halted the Wild's three-game winning streak.
Calgary at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Calgary Flames have been severely tested by a difficult schedule in the first month of the season and they are prospering from the challenge. The Flames have won six of their first eight games on the road and look to add to that when they visit the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. Sean Monahan’s overtime goal gave Calgary a 4-3 victory at Washington on Tuesday to increase its winning streak to three while Tampa Bay tries to finish a perfect four-game homestand.
New Jersey at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
Vladimir Tarasenko and the St. Louis Blues aren't showing any signs of slowing down as the former hopes to help the latter extend their winning streak to seven games in Thursday's finale of a home-and-home series versus the visiting New Jersey Devils. The NHL's First Star of the Week, Tarasenko followed up his highlight-reel goal and decisive shootout tally in a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday by scoring early in the third period of St. Louis' 1-0 triumph over New Jersey.
Pittsburgh at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets are playing their best hockey of the season and they will need to be on top of their game as they prepare for a visit from the surging Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. The Jets have ripped off three consecutive victories, allowing one goal in that span, and are riding a six-game point streak (5-0-1) to rebound from a 1-4-0 start to the season.
Nashville at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Stars attempt to snap their five-game winless streak when they host the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Dallas has not landed in the win column since posting a 3-2 shootout victory at New Jersey on Oct. 24, losing three times in regulation and twice in overtime. The Stars began a three-game homestand with a 3-1 loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday, marking the third straight game in which they managed just one goal.
Toronto at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche won 12 of their first 13 games last season and didn't suffer their loss until Nov. 6. Exactly one year later, the Avalanche are trying to avoid their second four-game losing streak of the young campaign when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Colorado surrendered five straight goals in a 5-2 setback to Vancouver on Tuesday, leading to a postgame meeting.
NY Islanders at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings return home from a lengthy road trip to face the New York Islanders on Thursday. Los Angeles went 0-3-1 over the first four games of its trek before salvaging the finale with a 3-1 triumph at Dallas on Tuesday. The Kings struggled offensively on the trip, scoring two goals on three occasions while also getting shut out at Pittsburgh.
Vancouver at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
Vancouver began its road trip in style, but the competition gets stiffer when the Canucks start a grueling three-game stretch through California with a contest in San Jose against the Sharks on Thursday. Vancouver made it five wins in its last six games after scoring five unanswered goals during a 13:14 span in Tuesday's 5-2 victory over Colorado, beginning with captain Henrik Sedin's tally with four seconds left in the second period.
