Preview Roundups
October 30, 2016
Buffalo at Winnipeg 3:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres finally got the result they wanted in snapping a four-game losing streak, and now look to string consecutive victories together for the first time this season when they visit the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Buffalo earned its second win of the season in Saturday’s 3-0 home shutout of Florida, following a string of listless defeats that had the Sabres vowing to put forth a better effort.
Florida at Detroit 5:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings look to start another winning streak fewer than 24 hours after their six-game run came to an end as they host the struggling Florida Panthers on Sunday. The Red Wings managed just 24 shots on goal in a 1-0 loss to Boston on Saturday night, but received another outstanding goaltending performance as Jimmy Howard made 35 saves.
Philadelphia at Carolina 5:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes made the lengthy wait for their home opener worthwhile and will try to chalk up back-to-back victories when they host the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday afternoon. After beginning the season with a six-game road trip, the Hurricanes rode a pair of goals from Jeff Skinner to a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers in Friday's season debut at home.
Toronto at NY Islanders 6:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders are sitting at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division but have a chance to make up ground when they kick off a five-game homestand against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night. New York is coming off a rugged back-to-back with losses to red-hot Montreal and reigning Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh.
Los Angeles at Chicago 7:00 PM ET
After needing overtime to notch their first road victory of the season, the Chicago Blackhawks open a three-game homestand against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night. Chicago and Los Angeles have waged a heavyweight battle for NHL supremacy in recent years, each winning two Stanley Cups in a span of four seasons (2012-15).
Tampa Bay at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers have been a better team on home ice in the early going and look to continue that trend when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night. The Rangers have won four of five games at Madison Square Garden and outshot their opponent 33-18 in the only loss, but come in off a disappointing 3-2 defeat at Carolina on Friday.
Ottawa at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers own the best record in the Western Conference and a five-game winning streak as they host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, and there's more to their fast start than young superstar Connor McDavid. While the 19-year-old captain blasted out of the gate with five goals and seven assists in the first eight games, it is offseason veteran acquisitions such as power forward Milan Lucic and defenseman Kris Russell that could really help Edmonton turn the corner.
Washington at Calgary 9:30 PM ET
The Calgary Flames have turned their fortunes around with three straight wins and look to extend their streak when the Washington Capitals pay a visit Sunday night. The Flames managed just one victory in their first six games of the season, but knocked off Chicago in a shootout Monday before taking care of both St. Louis and Ottawa by three goals apiece.
