Preview Roundups
October 28, 2016
Chicago at New Jersey 7:30 PM ET
While captain Jonathan Toews is mired in his traditional slow start to a season, the Chicago Blackhawks have overcome their own early missteps to post a 3-1-1 mark in their last five games. Coach Joel Quenneville plans to group Toews with reigning Hart Trophy winner Patrick Kane (club high-tying six assists) and Richard Panik (team-leading six goals) on the top line Friday as the Blackhawks visit the New Jersey Devils.
NY Rangers at Carolina 7:30 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes finally get a chance to play before their home fans, but they will face an arduous task when they host the red-hot New York Rangers on Friday night. The Hurricanes have won only once after they were forced to play their first six games on the road because of the North Carolina State Fair.
Winnipeg at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
While the Winnipeg Jets will have had no time to rest, the host Colorado Avalanche have had plenty of time to prepare for their Central Division showdown Friday. Winnipeg will be playing its fourth game in six days and second in as many nights after posting a 4-1 victory over visiting Dallas on Thursday in the back end of a home-and-home series.
Ottawa at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators received their best goaltending performance in their last outing, but will see a change in the crease for Friday's game against the host Calgary Flames. General manager Pierre Dorion announced on Thursday that the 35-year-old Craig Anderson (4-1-0, 2.94 goals against average) has been given an indefinite leave of absence to deal with a personal matter.
Edmonton at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
Off to their best start since Wayne Gretzky was leading the franchise, the surging Edmonton Oilers go for their fifth consecutive victory when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night. Edmonton improve to 6-1-0 -- its best start since 1985-86 -- with a 4-1 victory over reigning Presidents' Trophy-winning Washington on Wednesday night.
Columbus at Anaheim 10:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets have one final chance to pull out a victory in California when they visit the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. Columbus, which began its four-game road trip Saturday with a shutout win in Dallas, was edged in overtime by Los Angeles two days before dropping a 3-1 decision at San Jose on Thursday.
