Preview Roundups
October 28, 2014
Minnesota at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild have allowed the fewest goals in the NHL but they cannot be feeling too good about their defense entering Tuesday's matchup at the Boston Bruins. The Wild gave up six goals in their first six games but must recover from a shocking collapse after surrendering five third-period tallies in Monday's loss to the New York Rangers.
Winnipeg at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets begin a four-game road trip on Tuesday with a visit to the New York Islanders. The Islanders won their last two contests to maintain their lead in the Metropolitan Division and have the most productive offense in the league, scoring nearly four goals per game. Winnipeg is scoring below half that rate and is among the bottom five teams in terms of even-strength goals for/against ratio.
Los Angeles at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
After helping its team complete a perfect six-game homestand for the first time in franchise history, "That '70s Line" takes its impressive show on the road when the Los Angeles Kings visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Tanner Pearson scored two goals in the third period and Tyler Toffoli netted a tally and set up three others in the Kings' 5-2 victory over Columbus on Sunday.
New Jersey at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils attempt to continue their success on the road when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. New Jersey opened the season with three straight wins away from home and improved to 4-1-0 on the road with a 3-2 overtime triumph at Ottawa on Saturday. Jaromir Jagr scored at 3:39 of the extra session while rookie defenseman Damon Severson recorded a goal and an assist as the Devils halted their four-game winless drought (0-2-2).
Ottawa at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
This past weekend brought out the emotions of the Ottawa Senators and their fans, but yielded little in the way of positive results. The Senators will look to change that Tuesday night as they conclude a two-game road trip against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Senators claimed one of a possible four points and are coming off Sunday's 2-1 loss at Chicago, while the Blue Jackets are reeling after dropping a 5-2 decision to the host Los Angeles Kings.
Buffalo at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had trouble scoring goals for the majority of the past 11 days - and they're still far better off than the Buffalo Sabres, who visit Air Canada Centre on Tuesday night. Toronto has dropped three of four, scoring just two goals in those three defeats. The Maple Leafs look to improve their fortunes against a Sabres team that is coming off a 2-1 victory over the host San Jose Sharks, but has scored just nine goals through its first 11 games.
Arizona at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning managed to record three victories on their recent five-game road swing amidst a rash of injuries to key personnel. The Lightning could get regular forwards Alex Killorn and J.T. Brown back in the lineup Tuesday as they begin a four-game homestand against the Arizona Coyotes. The Lightning had not given up more than two goals in seven of eight games before Saturday’s 7-2 loss at Minnesota and must be alert against the Coyotes, who have several weapons on offense.
Anaheim at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
Now that their seven-game winning streak is history, the Anaheim Ducks will hit the road for a rugged four-game trek beginning with Tuesday night's matchup at the Chicago Blackhawks. Anaheim's bid for a perfect five-game homestand was derailed in Sunday's 4-1 setback to the San Jose Sharks - the first defeat for the Ducks since a season-opening setback in Pittsburgh.
St. Louis at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues attempt to build off an impressive victory when they visit the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. St. Louis snapped a two-game slide during which it totaled one goal with a 3-2 home triumph over Chicago on Saturday. Ryan Reaves and Dmitrij Jaskin scored in the final 1:51 of the second period to create a 3-1 lead and the Blues held off their Central Division rival in the third to post just their second win in five games.
San Jose at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
No team has spent more time away from home than the San Jose Sharks and that pattern will continue for the next three weeks. The Sharks, coming off an impressive win at Anaheim that snapped a four-game losing streak, continue a stretch in which they play 10 of 12 on the road when they visit the struggling Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night. San Jose has played only three home games and faces a grueling season-opening schedule in which it plays 16 of its first 21 games on the road.
Montreal at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
After coming up empty in the home of one team from Alberta, the Montreal Canadiens continue their road trip against the other when they visit the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Montreal, which was coming off a perfect four-game homestand, began its three-game trek with a 3-0 loss in Edmonton on Monday. The Canadiens outshot the Oilers by a 29-19 margin, including 12-7 in the third period, but were blanked for the first time this season.
Carolina at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes hope the return of their captain will result in their first win of the season as they conclude their five-game road trip against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Eric Staal is expected to return from an upper-body injury that forced him to miss the previous five games as Carolina attempts to salvage the finale of its trek. The Hurricanes fell to 0-3-1 on their trip Friday, dropping a 6-3 decision in Edmonton as they allowed three goals over the final 7:05 of the third.
