Preview Roundups
October 21, 2014
San Jose at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks wrap up their five-game road trip along the East Coast when they visit the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. San Jose continued its strong start to the season by going 2-0-1 over the first three games of the trek before suffering its first regulation loss of the campaign Sunday, a 4-0 setback against the New York Rangers. Alex Stalock made 25 saves in the loss but surrendered two goals in a span of four seconds during the final minute of the middle period en route to defeat.
NY Rangers at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils renew their rivalry when the teams meet at Prudential Center on Tuesday. The Rangers and Devils will play four times in a season series that could do a lot to decide the Metropolitan Division playoff picture. New York enters the contest on a two-game winning streak, while New Jersey has lost its last two.
Toronto at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders have had an up-and-coming roster for a while. Those pieces appear to finally be fitting together as the surging Islanders host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday in search of their fifth win in six games to open the season. New York is coming off its first loss of the season - a 3-1 road setback in Pittsburgh - while the Maple Leafs are looking to rebound after dropping both ends of a home-and-home set with rival Detroit.
Detroit at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens are on the cusp of their best start since 1978, while the Detroit Red Wings aren't doing too shabby in their own right despite missing several key cogs. The Original Six rivals look to continue their respective hot starts when they meet at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Tuesday.
Carolina at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
A pair of teams looking to overcome sluggish starts to the season square off at MTS Centre on Tuesday, when the Winnipeg Jets entertain the Carolina Hurricanes. Winnipeg has opened the campaign with one win in its first five games and has struggled to generate much on the offensive end, managing a Western Conference-low eight goals. The Hurricanes haven't been any better, with zero wins and just two points through their opening four games.
Arizona at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes take to the road for the first time this season as they pay the Nashville Predators a visit Tuesday. Arizona began 2014-15 by splitting a four-game homestand that saw the winning team score six or more goals in three of the victories. The Coyotes were on the wrong end of two of those contests, suffering a 6-2 loss to Winnipeg in their season opener and dropping a 6-1 decision to St. Louis on Saturday.
Philadelphia at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks continued their hot start to the season with a victory in their last contest, while the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to the same result for their first triumph of the campaign. The teams look to keep the positive momentum going when they meet in Chicago on Tuesday. Although the Blackhawks improved to 3-0-1 following a 2-1 triumph over Nashville on Saturday, they have mustered just 11 goals in four contests.
Vancouver at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks attempt to rebound from their first loss of the season when they begin a three-game road trip against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. Vancouver won its first three contests - all against Pacific Division rivals - before dropping a 4-2 decision to visiting Tampa Bay on Saturday. Defenseman Alex Edler recorded a goal and an assist while Eddie Lack stopped 20 shots in his season debut.
Florida at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche look to rebound from a rough start as they play seven of their next nine games at home, starting with a visit from the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The defending Central Division-champion Avalanche have managed only nine goals in six contests while goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and Reto Berra have missed games with injuries. The Panthers are suffering through an offensive drought as well with only five goals but have found a way to get points in three of five contests.
Tampa Bay at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames kick off a five-game homestand when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. Calgary concluded its 4-2-0 road trip Sunday with a 4-1 triumph at Winnipeg as Mason Raymond scored a goal and set up two others while Johnny Gaudreau and defenseman Dennis Wideman each recorded a tally and an assist. The Flames haven't played at home since dropping a 4-2 decision to Vancouver on Oct. 8 in their season opener.
