Preview Roundups
October 20, 2016
New Jersey at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins finally are going to enjoy the taste of home cookin' on Thursday while the New Jersey Devils have exited TD Garden with a sour taste in their mouth following losses in nine of the last 10 encounters. The Bruins will look to continue their domination of the Devils and improve upon last season's 17-18-6 home mark when the clubs meet on Thursday.
Anaheim at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks have begun their season-opening five-game road trip by spending far too much time in the penalty box for coach Randy Carlyle's liking. The Ducks will look to stay out of the box and find the winner's circle for the first time this season on Thursday when they conclude the lengthy trek against the Philadelphia Flyers.
San Jose at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks won't soon forget the last time they faced off against Pittsburgh, watching helplessly as the visiting Penguins hoisted the Stanley Cup with a 3-1 victory on June 12. San Jose has a chance to extract some revenge on a much smaller scale when it visits the Penguins on Thursday night in the fourth stop of a five-game road trip.
Arizona at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
Standout netminder Carey Price could make his much-anticipated season debut when the Montreal Canadiens host the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night. Price has been sidelined with a case of the flu that caused him to lose seven to eight pounds, but he took part in his first full practice Wednesday since Oct. 9.
Colorado at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning boast three straight comeback victories to open the season and look to make it easier on themselves Thursday when the Colorado Avalanche pay a visit. The Lightning rallied from two goals down to defeat Detroit and New Jersey before getting a brilliant goal from captain Steven Stamkos with 5.5 seconds left in regulation Tuesday and beating Florida 4-3 in the shootout.
Washington at Florida 7:30 PM ET
The Washington Capitals hope to break out offensively for the first time this season when they pay a visit to the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. The Capitals, who led the Eastern Conference in scoring in 2015-16, have put up seven goals in the first three games and posted their initial two power-play tallies in a 3-0 triumph against Colorado on Tuesday.
Toronto at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild attempt to conclude their first homestand of the season with a perfect record when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. After dropping its season opener in St. Louis, Minnesota posted home victories over Winnipeg and Los Angeles - scoring at least four goals in each triumph.
Los Angeles at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings couldn't have started the 2016-17 season in worse shape, as they lost franchise goaltender Jonathan Quick in the first period of the opener and have failed to overcome subpar netminding in his absence. Winless after three contests for the second straight campaign and with Quick reportedly sidelined for three months with an unspecified injury, the Kings look to get it in gear on Thursday when they visit the Dallas Stars.
Carolina at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
After finally breaking into the win column on their fourth attempt, the Calgary Flames will look to build some momentum when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The Flames needed to erase three one-goal deficits against Buffalo on Tuesday before pulling out a 4-3 victory in overtime on a tally by Sean Monahan.
St. Louis at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
Nail Yakupov was labeled as an underachiever in four seasons since he was selected as the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2012, but his trade to St. Louis on the eve of the season still was a bit of a shocker. Less than two weeks after he was sent packing, Yakupov returns to Edmonton when the Blues take on the Oilers on Thursday night.
Buffalo at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks' path to a perfect record leaves a bit to be desired, even if the voyage spans a small sample size. Vancouver looks to get the early jump on the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Thursday after becoming the first NHL team in history to win its first three games of the season without holding a lead in regulation.
