Preview Roundups
October 18, 2016
Anaheim at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
Two teams in search of their first victory will square off when the New Jersey Devils host the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. It will mark the home opener for New Jersey, which dropped its season opener in overtime at Florida before squandering an early two-goal lead in a 3-2 setback at Tampa Bay on Saturday.
San Jose at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders look to take advantage of a day's rest as they continue their five-game homestand against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. New York began its string of home games with a 3-2 overtime victory over Anaheim on Sunday, with Josh Bailey scoring 54 seconds into an extra session that was forced when the Ducks tallied with a minute remaining in the third period.
Colorado at Washington 7:00 PM ET
Three-time Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin looks to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season when his Washington Capitals host the unbeaten Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Ovechkin has recorded eight shots in his first two games but has yet to post a point, along with linemates T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov, during a 1-0-1 start for the Capitals.
Pittsburgh at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens saw a record-setting start unravel last season following an injury to star goaltender Carey Price, who will be a spectator for Tuesday's home game against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Montreal rolled over Buffalo in its season opener before losing in a shootout at Ottawa on Saturday.
Arizona at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes are the most well-rested team in the NHL and need to be as they kick off a six-game road trip with the first of three contests in four nights when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. Arizona has played just one game over the first six days of the 2016-17 season, an overtime victory over Philadelphia at home on Saturday, while nearly half of the teams in the league have three contests under their belts.
Florida at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Florida Panthers’ rebuilt defense corps shined in the first two games of the season and the group gets its toughest test yet against the host Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. Florida general manager Tom Rowe brought in three veterans to join a trio of solid young blue liners in the top six and the Panthers allowed two goals total in a pair of victories.
Dallas at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff isn't worrying about his high-octane offense getting it in gear - after all, the team has erupted for nine goals on just 48 shots in its first two games. Ruff, however, has his eyes set on the other end of the ice as his sputtering defense looks to get untracked on Tuesday as the Stars visit the Central Division-rival Nashville Predators.
Los Angeles at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Three goals in two contests is not the offensive firepower that Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter envisioned his club to produce to begin the season. With his team already missing Marian Gaborik (broken right foot), Sutter hopes the return of fellow top-six forward Tanner Pearson from a two-game suspension will ignite the Kings on Tuesday when they open a brief two-game road trip against the Minnesota Wild.
Philadelphia at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
Richard Panik is off to a stellar start with a team-leading four goals and five points for the Chicago Blackhawks. While that's fine and dandy, reigning Hart Trophy recipient Patrick Kane, Russian dynamo Artemi Panarin and captain Jonathan Toews have yet to score a goal heading into Tuesday's tilt against the Philadelphia Flyers, who are concluding a three-game road trip to begin the season.
Buffalo at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames were among the league's most disappointing teams in the NHL last season and they are off to a slow start as they prepare to host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. The winless Flames were pierced for 12 goals in dropping a home-and-home series to provincial-rival Edmonton before falling in a shootout at Vancouver.
Carolina at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes remain in search of their first win of 2016-17 as they continue their season-opening six-game road trip Tuesday against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. Carolina has kicked off its campaign with disappointing overtime losses at Winnipeg and Vancouver, squandering a three-goal lead in each contest.
St. Louis at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues will vie for the second 4-0-0 start in franchise history on Tuesday as they begin a three-game trek through Western Canada with a date versus the Vancouver Canucks. St. Louis swept a three-game season series against Vancouver in 2015-16, with the latter two victories coming via a shutout.
