Preview Roundups
October 10, 2015
Tampa Bay at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres had some positives in their opening-night loss and look to find more consistency when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday afternoon. Buffalo lost its No. 1 goalie Robin Lehner indefinitely with an ankle injury early in a rough first period before getting a goal from 18-year-old center Jack Eichel in a 3-1 loss to Ottawa on Thursday.
Montreal at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins will attempt to rebound from a brutal season-opening performance but they'll have to do it against their biggest nemesis when the Montreal Canadiens pay a visit to TD Garden on Saturday. After getting steamrolled at home by Winnipeg in a 6-2 rout, the Bruins must find a way to end a five-game losing streak to the Canadiens.
Ottawa at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
Ottawa's top line of Kyle Turris, Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone looks to build off its big opening night when the Senators visit Toronto on Saturday in the Maple Leafs' home opener. Turris scored twice with Hoffman and Stone assisting on each goal in the Senators' 3-1 victory in Buffalo on Thursday, and coach Dave Cameron was thrilled with the trio's complete game.
Philadelphia at Florida 7:00 PM ET
After nearly lifting Florida to an elusive playoff berth in 2014-15, Jaromir Jagr looks to get the Panthers off on the right foot when they play their season opener against the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Jagr made a statement with Florida after being acquired from New Jersey in February, collecting six goals and 12 assists in 20 games.
Columbus at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
A strong training camp earned New York Rangers rookie center Oscar Lindberg a spot on the third line, and the 23-year-old is making coach Alain Vigneault's decision to put him there look good. Lindberg tries to score for the third time in as many games this season when New York plays its home opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday in the finale of a home-and-home series.
New Jersey at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils attempt to bounce back from a season-opening defeat when they visit the Washington Capitals for their opener Saturday. New Jersey's new era began just as its disappointing old one ended as the club suffered a 3-1 loss to Winnipeg at home Friday.
Detroit at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings hope for a repeat performance when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Detroit opened 2015-16 on Friday with a 4-0 home triumph over Toronto as Jimmy Howard turned aside 22 shots and Justin Abdelkader registered the second hat trick of the young NHL season.
Edmonton at Nashville 7:00 PM ET
Connor McDavid spent the summer hearing many of hockey's best toss verbal bouquets his way. After toggling between the rose and the thorns in the season opener, the top overall pick looks for a better effort on Saturday when the Edmonton Oilers continue their three-game road trip against the Nashville Predators.
St. Louis at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues will have an opportunity to exact a measure of revenge against the team that ended their 2014-15 season when they open a six-game road trip against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. St. Louis ran roughshod over the league to secure the Central Division title, but fell victim to Zach Parise and the Wild en route to their third straight early exit from the playoffs.
NY Islanders at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
Patrick Kane will try to come up with a big performance on back-to-back nights as his Chicago Blackhawks host the New York Islanders on Saturday. Kane scored his second goal of the game with 1:49 gone in overtime to give the defending Stanley Cup champions a 3-2 victory Friday that spoiled the season opener for the Islanders.
Dallas at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
Coming off a stunning third-period collapse in their season opener, the Colorado Avalanche look to bounce back when they host the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. Colorado appeared headed to a lopsided victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday before surrendering four goals in a span of 5:07 to absorb a galling 5-4 defeat.
Calgary at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks attempt to sweep a home-and-home series to open the season when they host their Western Canada-rival Calgary Flames on Saturday. Vancouver, which lost to the Flames in the first round of the 2015 playoffs, weathered a rough first 10 minutes before rolling to a 5-1 victory at Calgary on Wednesday while posting 44 shots on goal.
Pittsburgh at Arizona 10:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins look to rebound from a disappointing performance in their season opener and spoil the Arizona Coyotes’ home debut Saturday night. The Penguins posted 37 shots — none from captain Sidney Crosby — but dropped a 3-0 decision at Dallas on Thursday and attempt to split a two-game road trip before heading home for the next five contests.
Anaheim at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
If the previous three years are any indication, the 2015-16 Anaheim Ducks will reach the Stanley Cup Final, take a 3-2 series lead and lose Game 7 at home.  But first, Anaheim must start its season and becomes the final team to do so when it visits San Jose on Saturday in the Sharks' home opener.
