Preview Roundups
April 11, 2014
Chicago at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks look to remain perfect in April when they visit the Washington Capitals on Friday. Chicago has won all four of its games thus far this month, extending the streak with a 3-2 overtime triumph over Montreal in its home finale on Wednesday.
Carolina at Detroit 7:30 PM ET
Having clinched a playoff slot for the 23rd consecutive season, the longest active streak among the four major sports, the Detroit Red Wings will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night in their next-to-last game of the regular season. Detroit is staring at a matchup with either top-seeded Boston or Metropolitan Division champion Pittsburgh in the opening round of the playoffs, but coach Mike Babcock likes his team's chances.
Columbus at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets and Tampa Bay Lightning attempt to improve their seeding in the Eastern Conference playoffs when they meet in the Sunshine State on Friday. The Lightning can clinch home ice in the first round against Montreal by winning its final two games after beating Philadelphia 4-2 on Thursday. Columbus, which sealed its second-ever postseason appearance Wednesday, is tied with the Flyers for third place in the Metropolitan Division with two games left.
NY Islanders at New Jersey 7:30 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils will be spectators for the upcoming postseason due in large part to their inability to win in the shootout. After falling in the bonus format for the 12th time this season and NHL-record 16th straight dating back to the last campaign, the Devils look to rebound against the visiting New York Islanders on Friday.
St. Louis at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Stars attempt to clinch their first postseason berth since 2008 when they face the St. Louis Blues in their home finale on Friday. Dallas is two points ahead of Phoenix for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with two games remaining and owns the tiebreaker between the clubs.
Winnipeg at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames vie for their fifth consecutive victory on Friday, when they host the Winnipeg Jets in a battle of teams playing out the string. Rookie Sean Monahan scored in regulation and netted the deciding tally in the shootout as Calgary skated to a 4-3 triumph over Los Angeles on Wednesday. Karri Ramo made 41 saves as the Flames played their 49th one-goal game this season, tying an NHL record set by Florida in 2010-11.
Colorado at San Jose 10:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche look to maintain first place in the Central Division as they continue their season-ending four-game road trip against the San Jose Sharks on Friday. Colorado pulled even in points with St. Louis on Thursday thanks to a 4-2 triumph at Vancouver but technically is ahead of the Blues thanks to the tiebreaker.
