Preview Roundups
March 18, 2017
Colorado at Detroit 1:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings get a chance to avenge a defeat from three days ago when they play the second half of a home-and-home series against the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon. While Colorado has been off since its 3-1 win over Detroit on Wednesday, the Red Wings return home off a 3-2 shootout win 24 hours later at Arizona.
Columbus at NY Islanders 1:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders' dominance at home has hit a bump in the road recently with regulation losses in back-to-back tilts at the Barclays Center after a stellar 9-0-2 run. The Islanders look to rediscover the magic at home on Saturday afternoon when they host the season series finale against the Metropolitan Division-rival Columbus Blue Jackets.
NY Rangers at Minnesota 7:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild lost their hold of first place in the Central Division during a disappointing road trip and return home for another tough test against the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Wild trail Chicago by three points heading into the weekend after losing five of six - including the 1-4-0 trek - and scored as many goals in the five losses as in their 7-4 win at Florida.
Chicago at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks turned the page since the start of February, posting win streaks of five and seven contests before beginning their current three-game run by vaulting into first place in the Central Division. With victories in 15 of their last 18 contests, the Blackhawks look to continue their impressive March as they vie for a sweep of their Canadian road trip with Saturday's tilt versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Montreal at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
Rebuffed in their previous attempt to wrest control of the top spot in the Atlantic Division, the Ottawa Senators can take matters into their own hands when they host the first-place Montreal Canadiens on Saturday in the first leg of a home-and-home. Ottawa sits one point behind division-leading Montreal with one game in hand.
Washington at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have not been the same team since their league-mandated “bye week” last month and try to gain some momentum when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. The Capitals saw their lead in the Metropolitan Division shrink while going 6-6-2 since Feb. 18 and are averaging 2.2 goals during that stretch, capped by a 2-1 overtime loss to Nashville on Thursday.
Nashville at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators have endured considerable troubles in overtime over the last two seasons, so it stands to reason that the club understandably is relieved after receiving a favorable decision in each of their last two games. The Predators, who began their 7-2-2 run with a campaign-best four-game winning streak, will look to match that run on Saturday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes.
St. Louis at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues and Arizona Coyotes will get to know each other rather well in the next 12 days, as the clubs face off on Saturday in the first of three meetings in that span. Facing the cellar-dwelling Coyotes likely is music to the ears of the red-hot Blues, who have won six of seven to reside two points behind Nashville for third place in the Central while moving four points up on Los Angeles for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
Vancouver at Edmonton 10:00 PM ET
Just when a lack of offense appeared to be tripping up the Edmonton Oilers' chances to nail down a top-three finish in the Pacific Division, they have snapped out of their scoring malaise with a vengeance. The Oilers attempt to keep their attack percolating when they host the stumbling Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
Anaheim at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks attempt to extend their lead over the second-place Anaheim Ducks in the Pacific Division when they wrap up their six-game homestand on Saturday. San Jose, which has gone 3-2-0 on its stretch at SAP Center, is six points ahead of Anaheim and seven in front of third-place Calgary with 12 games remaining.
