Preview Roundups
March 10, 2014
Pittsburgh at Washington 7:00 PM ET
Eight years into their respective careers, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin still generate plenty of buzz when they face one another. Crosby takes his league-leading point total into the United States capital on Monday as he leads the Pittsburgh Penguins against goals leader Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in the opener of a home-and-home set. It's the third meeting of the season between the rivals, with the Penguins earning a 4-0 win Nov. 20 and a 4-3 triumph Jan. 15.
Nashville at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators attempt to remain within reach of a playoff berth as they return from a four-game road trip to host the Nashville Predators on Monday. Ottawa sits four points behind Columbus for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with 18 games remaining but also has three teams in its path.
Phoenix at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning gained an important point in their last game and look to build off that when the hungry Phoenix Coyotes pay a visit on Monday. The Lightning dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to the Atlantic Division-leading Boston Bruins on Saturday after losing three in a row to remain barely in playoff position in the Eastern Conference, but play 12 of the final 18 games at home. The Coyotes stand three points behind Dallas for the second wild-card spot in the West.
Columbus at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets vie for their second win in a week against the Dallas Stars when the teams meet in the Lone Star State on Monday. The Blue Jackets are looking for a little more offense as they wrap up a three-game Western Conference road trip after scoring once in each of the first two contests. Columbus posted a 4-2 win over Dallas on Tuesday and has seized four of five victories to start March, moving into a tie in points for the final wild card playoff spot in the East.
Winnipeg at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
After falling to the Central Division leader, the Colorado Avalanche look to rebound when they host one of the cellar dwellers in the Winnipeg Jets on Monday. Colorado saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 setback to St. Louis on Saturday. PA Parenteau scored the lone goal for the Avalanche, who lost United States Olympian Paul Stastny to a back injury in the first minute of the contest.
Los Angeles at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings look to extend their season-high winning streak when they conclude their three-game road trip against the Calgary Flames on Monday. Los Angeles skated to its seventh consecutive victory Sunday as Jeff Carter scored two goals and set up another in a 4-2 triumph at Edmonton. The Kings have clamped down defensively during the run, allowing a total of 10 goals and more than one tally only twice.
NY Islanders at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders look to put a disappointing two-day stretch in Alberta behind them as they move on to conclude their Canadian road trip against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. New York began its four-game trek in good fashion as it escaped Winnipeg with a 3-2 overtime victory on Tuesday after squandering a third-period lead.
Toronto at Anaheim 10:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs are heading in right direction with two straight victories and points in 16 of their last 19 contests (13-3-3). The Maple Leafs hope their good fortune accompanies them on a five-game road trip, which begins Monday with the opener of a three-game trek through California against the Anaheim Ducks. Former Duck Joffrey Lupul scored 2:21 into overtime as Toronto posted a 3-2 triumph over Philadelphia on Saturday.
