Preview Roundups
February 24, 2015
Vancouver at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks are trying to fend off a host of challengers in the Pacific Division and could be without their starting goaltender as they continue their five-game road trip with a visit to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night. Vancouver has posted a pair of wins against both New York clubs sandwiched around a loss at New Jersey, but the latest victory came at a price. Goaltender Ryan Miller was injured versus the Islanders and sent back to Vancouver for an MRI exam.
Arizona at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes attempt to put an end to their six-game slide when they continue their road trip against the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Islanders on Tuesday. Arizona kicked off its four-game East Coast trek on Monday with a 3-0 setback at New Jersey, marking the eighth time this season it has been shut out.
Calgary at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers are riding a 9-1-2 run to position themselves two points out of first place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers look to continue their winning ways and complete a two-game season series sweep of the Calgary Flames when the clubs meet at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Martin St. Louis continued to put distance between his 15-game goalless drought by tallying twice in a 4-3 shootout victory over Columbus on Sunday.
Philadelphia at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
Wayne Simmonds has been one of the many key cogs that have the Philadelphia Flyers back in contention for a postseason berth. The 26-year-old looks to extend his career-high eight-game point streak when the Flyers open a brief two-game road trip against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. Simmonds scored his team-leading 24th goal as Philadelphia posted a 3-2 shootout victory over Washington on Sunday afternoon to improve to 8-1-4 in its last 13 contests.
Buffalo at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets are 11 points out of a playoff spot with 24 games to play but they continue to harbor postseason aspirations as they prepare to kick off a three-game homestand against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. The Blue Jackets are coming off a 2-2-1 road trip that culminated with shootout loss to the New York Rangers after they erased a three-goal deficit. Columbus has won only 12 times at home - second fewest in the Eastern Conference to Buffalo.
Montreal at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues have hit a bit of a rough patch over the past 2 1/2 weeks and must regroup in a hurry with the Eastern Conference-leading Montreal Canadiens coming to town Tuesday night. The Blues have split their last eight games following a scorching 12-0-1 stretch, but the biggest concern is allowing at least four goals in each of the losses. St. Louis had won five in a row in the series before absorbing a 4-1 defeat in Montreal on Nov. 20.
Colorado at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche are a long shot to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs, but face an opportunity to improve their odds over the next three games. Colorado on Tuesday begins a two-game road trip in the most difficult way possible when it takes on the Nashville Predators, who lead the NHL with 87 points and are a league-best 25-3-1 at home while boasting a seven-point lead over St. Louis in the Central Division.
Edmonton at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Devan Dubnyk has made quite the difference for his new team, and he looks to continue his dominance over one of his former clubs when the Minnesota Wild host the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Dubnyk (13-2-1, 1.64 goals-against average, .936 save percentage) is in line to make his 18th consecutive start for Minnesota, which is a league-best 13-2-2 since Jan. 15.
Dallas at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
The Dallas Stars hope to avoid a third straight third-period meltdown when they visit the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Dallas carried a two-goal lead into the third against Detroit on Saturday and squandered it before building another and allowing it to again slip away en route to an overtime loss. The Stars held a 1-0 advantage after two sessions in Minnesota the following night but surrendered six consecutive goals to suffer their third consecutive loss.
Florida at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks look to end their longest losing streak of the season when they host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday in the first of a home-and-home over 72 hours. The Blackhawks have dropped three straight (0-2-1), allowing 10 goals and scoring just three times while falling five points behind second-place St. Louis in the Central Division. The Panthers stand three points out of the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference despite going 2-4-1 over the last seven contests.
Detroit at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The red-hot Los Angeles Kings seek their eighth consecutive victory when they host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Los Angeles appeared to play itself out of the chance to repeat as Stanley Cup champion as it lost eight of its final 12 games in December before winning only three of its 11 contests in January. After beginning this month with back-to-back losses, the Kings have jumped back into the playoff race.
