The New Jersey Devils host the New York Islanders on Friday in a battle of Metropolitan Division rivals fighting for their playoff lives. New York plays 12 of its next 14 games on the road after a 3-2 overtime loss to Washington on Thursday and is third in the Metropolitan - two points ahead of fifth-place New Jersey, which trails Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay by one point for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
San Jose at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
San Jose captain Joe Pavelski is slated to play in his 700th career game Friday, when the surging Sharks visit the Carolina Hurricanes. Pavelski, who tops the team in scoring with 54 points, recorded an assist before scoring the shootout winner as the Sharks extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1) with a 2-1 victory at Florida on Thursday.
Buffalo at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
An eight-game losing streak to open the season all but buried the Columbus Blue Jackets, who will look to extend their point streak to a season-high seven contests when they host the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night. The Blue Jackets are 4-0-2 over the past six games and have only one regulation defeat in their last 10 contests (6-1-3).
Philadelphia at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers look to strengthen their standing for a potential postseason berth at the other's expense on Friday when the struggling clubs meet at the Bell Centre. While both teams are on the outside looking in, Philadelphia owns a two-point advantage over free-falling Montreal with two games in hand.
Vancouver at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks attempt to keep alive their fading playoff hopes when they take a brief pause from a lengthy stretch of home games to visit the Calgary Flames on Friday. Vancouver, which has a string of five straight at Rogers Arena after its contest in Alberta, is coming off a three-game homestand on which it dropped three 5-2 decisions.
