Preview Roundups
February 18, 2016
Washington at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals began a stretch of winning six of their last seven games with a 3-2 home victory over the New York Islanders on Feb. 4. The NHL-leading Capitals look to continue their good fortune at the Islanders' expense when the teams reconvene at Barclays Center on Thursday.
Detroit at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins are struggling to find their offense without Evgeni Malkin on the ice. The 2012 Hart Trophy winner is expected to miss his seventh consecutive contest on Thursday with a lower-body injury as the Penguins open a modest two-game homestand against the Detroit Red Wings.
NY Rangers at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
The New York Rangers will need to regroup quickly if they hope to bounce back from a rare regulation loss as they visit the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. New York, which is four points ahead of the New York Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division, failed to earn at least one point for the first time in seven games (5-1-1) Wednesday as it squandered a third-period lead en route to a 5-3 home defeat against Chicago.
Carolina at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators have a cluster of teams sitting ahead of them in the chase for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference and they get a chance to move closer to one of them when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The Senators halted a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout victory over visiting Buffalo on Tuesday.
Winnipeg at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning were rolling along during the first five weeks of the calendar year at 11-2-0 while threatening first place in the Atlantic Division but suddenly are in dire need of a victory. The Lightning have dropped four of their last five games, scoring two or fewer goals in each of the losses, as they prepare to host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
San Jose at Florida 7:30 PM ET
The Atlantic Division-leading Florida Panthers must continue to fight the injury bug when they host the surging San Jose Sharks on Thursday. The Panthers found a way to pull out a 2-1 shootout victory over Pittsburgh on Monday without five key regulars in the lineup and may have to go without them all again versus the Sharks, who are 4-1-1 in their last five contests.
Los Angeles at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The footsteps are getting louder for the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Kings, who continue their seven-game road trip with a visit to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. The Kings have dropped three of their past four games to see their lead atop the division whittled to three points over Anaheim and four over San Jose.
Boston at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
A pair of teams battling to enhance their Stanley Cup playoff positions clash when the Boston Bruins continue their season-high six-game road trip Thursday against the Nashville Predators. Boston improved to 3-1-0 on its trek and 19-6-3 on the road this season while moving into second in the Atlantic Division - four points clear of fourth-place Tampa Bay - with a 2-1 overtime victory over Columbus on Tuesday after outlasting the worst team in the Metropolitan.
Minnesota at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild attempt to post their first three-game winning streak since mid-December when they wrap up their road trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. Minnesota halted its eight-game slide by opening its trek with a triumph at Vancouver and improved to 2-0-0 under interim coach John Torchetti with Wednesday's 5-3 victory in Calgary.
Dallas at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
After playing their last six road games against their fellow Central Division representatives, the Dallas Stars will test their mettle versus a foe from the Pacific on Thursday as they visit the Arizona Coyotes. Dallas won the first five of those contests before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to St. Louis on Tuesday to fall to 7-1-1 in its last nine.
Anaheim at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks are 12-2-1 in their last 15 games and try to continue their meteoric rise in the Pacific Division when they conclude a season-long seven-game road trip Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. Anaheim defeated Edmonton 5-3 on Tuesday for its third straight victory while extending its point streak to five games and climbing into second place, three points behind Pacific-leading Los Angeles with three games remaining against its southern California rival.
