Preview Roundups
February 12, 2015
Toronto at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
With a significant milestone now in the rear-view mirror, the New York Islanders can get back to their primary focus: staying near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. The Islanders continue their four-game homestand Thursday night as they welcome the woeful Toronto Maple Leafs to Long Island. New York is coming off a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers; it was the team’s 35th win of 2014-15, one more victory than it had all of last season.
Anaheim at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
A promising start to a road trip has quickly taken an ugly turn for the Anaheim Ducks, who will try to salvage the finale of the five-game trek when they face the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. Anaheim won at Nashville on Feb. 5 but has dropped its next three and surrendered 11 goals in back-to-back losses to Tampa Bay and Florida. The Ducks edged visiting Carolina 5-4 in a shootout on Feb. 3 - the fourth time in five meetings the teams have gone past regulation.
Edmonton at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens continue their pursuit of the top record in the Eastern Conference when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. The Canadiens have won three in a row and eight of 10 to close within one point of Tampa Bay for first place in the Atlantic Division with three games in hand. Montreal, which is in the midst of a rugged stretch featuring nine games in 15 days, was blanked at Edmonton 3-0 on Oct. 27 and has lost five of seven in the series.
Pittsburgh at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators hope to have their All-Star back in the lineup when they begin a five-game homestand against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. Bobby Ryan, who leads Ottawa with 37 points, was a late scratch for the team's 2-1 victory at Buffalo on Tuesday due to muscle cramps but is optimistic about playing in the meeting with Pittsburgh.
St. Louis at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to continue gaining points during their month-long test against Western Conference teams as they host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. The Lightning gave up a lead late in the third period before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision at St. Louis on Feb. 3 and are 2-1-2 against the West during February. The Blues, who managed a season-low 18 shots on goal versus Tampa Bay nine days ago, rebounded from a two-game slide to beat Arizona 2-1 on Tuesday.
Winnipeg at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets are holding down the top wild card spot in the Western Conference and made a blockbuster deal to bolster their bid for a postseason slot. The Jets acquired defenseman Tyler Myers, forward Drew Stafford, a pair of prospects and a first-round draft pick from the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday in exchange for Evander Kane and blue-liner Zach Bogosian. The new additions will be in the lineup when the Jets visit the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
Florida at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild have turned their tumultuous season around - and they have a journeyman goaltender to thank for that. Devan Dubnyk looks to continue his incredible hot streak Thursday night as he leads the Wild into a home date with the Florida Panthers. Dubnyk has been sensational since coming to Minnesota in a trade with Arizona, sporting an 8-1-1 record with a 1.53 goals-against average, a .941 save percentage and four shutouts.
NY Rangers at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche attempt to halt their three-game losing streak when they begin a four-game homestand against the New York Rangers on Thursday. Colorado's slide began with back-to-back shutout losses to Detroit and Minnesota before it dropped a 5-3 decision at Winnipeg on Sunday. The Avalanche took the lead on defenseman Tyson Barrie's first-period tally before allowing four goals in the middle session and never getting closer than two the rest of the way.
Calgary at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Calgary Flames look to continue their dominance in the season series when they visit the Pacific Division-rival Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Calgary has captured the first three tightly contested meetings of the five-game set, sandwiching a pair of overtime wins in Los Angeles around a one-goal triumph at home. The Flames have won four of their last five games overall, including a 4-1 victory at San Jose on Monday in which Lance Bouma and David Jones recorded a goal and an assist apiece.
