Preview Roundups
January 31, 2015
Washington at Montreal 1:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens vie for their fifth consecutive victory when they open a four-game homestand against the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon. Carey Price hasn't missed a beat since the All-Star break, stopping 64-of-66 shots to lead Montreal to a 3-2 victory over Dallas on Tuesday and a 1-0 triumph over the New York Rangers two days later.
NY Islanders at Detroit 2:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings can get back on the winning track Saturday when they host the New York Islanders. The Red Wings lost to New York 2-1 on Dec. 19 at Detroit, where the Islanders have won five straight. New York has emerged victorious in three of its last four road games and leads the Metropolitan Division, while Detroit saw its six-game winning streak come to an end with a 5-1 setback against Tampa Bay.
Arizona at Ottawa 3:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators throttled the Arizona Coyotes in their first meeting, sending them on a seven-game skid (0-5-2) that mercifully came to an end on Thursday. Fresh off a 3-1 triumph over reeling Toronto, Arizona vies to record consecutive victories for the first time since winning three straight from Dec. 23-29 as the Coyotes invade Canada's capital to face the Senators on Saturday afternoon.
Los Angeles at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings look to reverse their season-long struggles away from home when they open a five-game road trip at the Boston Bruins on Saturday. The reigning Stanley Cup champions tuned up for the annual Grammys trek by ending a four-game slide with a come-from-behind victory over Chicago on Wednesday. "Hopefully it's a big confidence boost for us," forward Jeff Carter said. "After having some ups and downs, hopefully we can build off it and keep going."
Florida at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers had one of the worst home openers of the 2014-15 season - and Saturday night marks their first shot at revenge as they visit the New Jersey Devils in an Eastern Conference battle. The Panthers were drubbed 5-1 by the Devils in their first home game of the campaign, as New Jersey rode four first-period goals to an easy victory. Florida comes into this one on the heels of a 3-2 victory over Columbus on Thursday that halted a five-game losing streak.
Carolina at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers breezed into the All-Star break on a blistering 16-3-0 run but since have lost two straight to fall into eighth place in the Eastern Conference. New York looks to get back on track when it plays the second contest of its four-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. After dropping a 4-1 decision to the New York Islanders on Tuesday, the Rangers' offense was stymied by Montreal All-Star Carey Price en route to a 1-0 setback two nights later.
Toronto at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers built off the momentum of defeating their Keystone State rival to piece together a winning streak, while the Toronto Maple Leafs seemingly can't do anything right during their eight-game skid (0-7-1). The Flyers vie for their season-high fourth straight win when the reeling Maple Leafs visit the City of Brotherly Love on Saturday.
Dallas at Winnipeg 7:00 PM ET
The Dallas Stars attempt to conclude their three-game road trip with a winning record as they visit the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Dallas split the first two contests of its trek, dropping a 3-2 decision at Montreal on Tuesday before posting a 6-3 victory in Ottawa two nights later. Trevor Daley recorded a goal and two assists while fellow defenseman John Klingberg snapped a tie midway through the third period after the Stars squandered a 3-0 lead.
Columbus at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to avenge one of their four losses in 25 home games when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. The Lightning have won nine straight contests on home ice, matching the franchise record that included four consecutive victories at the end of the 2011-12 season and the first five of the 2012-13 campaign. Tampa Bay has won 11 of its last 15 overall and the Blue Jackets are 3-6-0 over their last nine games after a 3-2 loss at Florida on Thursday.
Edmonton at Calgary 10:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames attempt to bounce back from their first shutout loss when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night in this season's fourth installment of the Battle of Alberta. The Flames have dominated their provincial rivals, winning the previous three meetings by a combined 13-6 to extend their winning streak in the series to five games. Calgary is clinging to a one-point lead over Los Angeles for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Chicago at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks continue their respective lengthy stretches when they face off at SAP Center on Saturday. Chicago is halfway into its season-high seven-game road trip as it improved to 2-1-0 on the trek with a 4-1 triumph at Anaheim on Friday. All-Star Patrick Kane scored two goals and set up another while Patrick Sharp collected four assists as the Blackhawks evened their mark this month at 6-6-0.
