Preview Roundups
January 27, 2015
NY Rangers at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
Captain John Tavares put his best foot forward in the All-Star Game, becoming the sixth player in the contest's history to score four goals to lead Team Toews to victory. Tavares, who recorded three consecutive two-point performances heading into the break, looks to continue his torrid stretch as the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Islanders host the surging New York Rangers on Tuesday.
Arizona at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers showed some fight in their last outing before the All-Star break and have a chance to go on a run when they host the skidding Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday in the first of four straight home games. Philadelphia has enjoyed six days off since outlasting Pittsburgh in a testy overtime battle. Blizzard Colbie could impact Tuesday's matchup, although Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said Monday afternoon that he believes the game will go on as scheduled.
Winnipeg at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without their top two players when they host the red-hot Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Captain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin missed the All-Star Game with lower-body injuries and while the former is expected to return either Wednesday at Washington or Friday at New Jersey, the latter on Monday was placed on injured reserve - likely retroactive to Jan. 21 - and would be eligible to return as soon as Wednesday.
Washington at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
After hosting the 60th NHL All-Star Game, the Columbus Blue Jackets attempt to snap their three-game home losing streak when they face off against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. Columbus has not won at Nationwide Arena since concluding a 3-1-1 homestand with a 3-1 triumph over Minnesota on Dec. 31, losing all three games of a stretch at home from Jan. 10-16.
Tampa Bay at Carolina 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to pick up where they left off before the All-Star break when they visit the improved Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. The Lightning have won three straight contests and 10 of their last 13 to sit atop the Eastern Conference with 64 points, and attempt to beat Carolina for the 10th time in the last 11 games. The Hurricanes lost a pair of 2-1 decisions at Tampa Bay in December and have raised their level of play in January, going 6-2-1 in their last nine contests.
Dallas at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
After winning two straight and three of their last four games, the Montreal Canadiens look to continue their ascent in the Atlantic Division when they return from the All-Star break to host the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The Canadiens kept within three points of front-running Tampa Bay by skating to a 6-4 triumph over the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Islanders on Jan. 17 and a 2-1 overtime triumph over Central-best Nashville last Tuesday.
Detroit at Florida 7:30 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings have quietly moved within a point of first place in the Atlantic Division while riding a productive offense that has churned out 29 goals in the last eight outings. The Red Wings look for their eighth win in nine games when they visit the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. Detroit, which plays at first-place Tampa Bay on Thursday, tries to take advantage of a Panthers’ team that has gone winless in its last four contests (0-3-1) and gave up 16 goals in the process.
Colorado at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
Filip Forsberg made quite the impression during the first half of his rookie campaign as well as in the All-Star Game on Sunday. The 20-year-old Swede and potential Calder Trophy candidate looks to continue his good fortune as the Central Division-leading Predators return to the ice to host the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Forsberg, who shares the team lead in goals (15) with James Neal, also tallied twice to help Team Toews emerge victorious in the All-Star Game.
Buffalo at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres remain in search of their first victory of the calendar year as they resume their five-game road trip against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Buffalo has lost each of its nine contests in January and a total of 11 in a row since posting a 4-3 shootout victory over the New York Islanders on Dec. 27.
Minnesota at Edmonton 9:30 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild are buried in last place in the Central Division but remain within seven points of the final playoff slot in the Western Conference as they prepare to visit the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Mediocre goaltending has haunted the Wild, who face a three-game trek through Western Canada coming out of the All-Star break. Although Minnesota has dropped 14 of its last 18 overall (4-9-5), it has won eight of its last nine in Edmonton.
Anaheim at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks kick off a six-game homestand when they face off against the league-leading Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. Vancouver had its three-game winning streak halted last time out as it dropped a 4-1 decision at Tampa Bay last Tuesday. Defenseman Frank Corrado scored the lone goal as the Canucks completed their five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 record.
