Preview Roundups
January 21, 2017
St. Louis at Winnipeg 3:00 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets have dominated their fellow Central Division representatives in five games at MTS Centre this season, outscoring the group by an overwhelming 23-4 margin. The Jets carry an impressive 9-4-1 mark versus their division rivals into Saturday's tilt against the St. Louis Blues.
Carolina at Columbus 5:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets are just 3-5-0 since their historic 16-game winning streak and look to build some momentum before a difficult road trip when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The Blue Jackets, who are fourth in the league in scoring, have been shut out twice over their last eight games - including a 2-0 loss to Ottawa on Thursday.
Ottawa at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators have rebounded from a four-game skid by ripping off four victories in their last five games. The lone defeat in the hot stretch for the Senators was a 5-2 setback to provincial rival Toronto last weekend, a loss the Senators have a chance to avenge when they pay a visit to the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Buffalo at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres attempt to halt a four-game road slide when they begin a month-ending four-game trek Saturday against the Atlantic Division-leading Montreal Canadiens. Buffalo has gone 0-3-1 away from home since opening January with a 4-1 triumph at the New York Rangers but is coming off Friday's overtime victory at home over Detroit.
Los Angeles at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders haven't had much to crow about this season, but the club has every right to stick out its chest with captain John Tavares registering seven goals in his last four games and Thomas Greiss recording back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his career. The pair looks to steer the Islanders to their third straight victory and give interim coach Doug Weight a present on his 46th birthday when they play the second contest of a six-game homestand against the Los Angeles Kings
New Jersey at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The slumping Philadelphia Flyers return from five days of rest - and soul searching - when they host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. The Flyers have dropped 11 of their last 14 contests (3-8-3) after a stunning 10-game winning streak and surrendered a total 19 goals in their final four matches before a “bye week."
Tampa Bay at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning cleared up some issues on the defensive end of the ice in the last five games, but their offense has suddenly gone cold. The Lightning managed only five goals in the last four games and need to turn things around quickly to stay in the race for a playoff spot as they prepare to visit the struggling Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.
Washington at Dallas 8:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have not lost in regulation in 12 games but they face a much more daunting streak as they prepare to visit the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. Riding a torrid 10-0-2 stretch, Washington has dropped nine in a row to the Stars dating to October 2008 and hasn't won in regulation in Dallas in more than 21 years (Oct. 17, 1995).
Anaheim at Minnesota 9:00 PM ET
Bruce Boudreau will receive his second look at the team with which he won four consecutive division titles on Saturday night as his white-hot Minnesota Wild host the Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks. Boudreau enjoyed his trip back to Orange County on Jan. 8 after Minnesota skated to a 2-1 triumph as part of its stellar 18-2-2 run.
Edmonton at Calgary 10:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers look to extend their point streak to six games when they kick off a three-game road trip Saturday against the Calgary Flames. Edmonton closed out its six-game homestand with a 4-0-1 run that included Friday's shootout loss to Nashville and a shootout victory over Calgary last Saturday.
Colorado at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks are trying to chase down the Anaheim Ducks for first place in the Pacific Division and have a strong chance to extend their winning streak when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday in the first leg of a home-and-home series. Winners of four in a row, the Sharks look to continue their dominance over an opponent that has won once in San Jose since February 2008.
