Preview Roundups
January 19, 2015
Philadelphia at NY Islanders 1:00 PM ET
With four victories in their last five games, the New York Islanders have guaranteed themselves their coveted first-place position in the Metropolitan Division heading into the upcoming All-Star break. The Islanders can pad their three-point lead when they vie for their third straight victory over visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Monday afternoon.
Carolina at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
Switching head coaches has done little to change the fortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who return home following a disastrous four-game road trip to host the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday. Losers of five of six since Peter Horachek replaced the fired Randy Caryle, Toronto was blanked three times on its four-game trek. "It feels absolutely terrible," captain Dion Phaneuf said. "I don't know what more I can say than when you lose games, when you go through stretches like this, it's awful."
Vancouver at Florida 7:30 PM ET
Ryan Miller has been on a roll with back-to-back shutouts, but the veteran goaltender has struggled mightily of late when facing the Florida Panthers. Miller looks to lead the Vancouver Canucks to their third consecutive victory when they continue their five-game road trip against the Panthers on Monday. The 34-year-old turned aside 30 shots in a 4-0 triumph over Philadelphia on Thursday and made 28 saves for his 34th career shutout in a 3-0 win against Carolina the following night.
Colorado at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues are ascending in the ultra-competitive Central Division and look to extend their point streak to eight contests when they continue their season-high seven-game homestand against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. Alex Steen scored in his fifth straight contest and Brian Elliott turned aside all 27 shots he faced in St. Louis' 3-0 victory over Toronto on Saturday.
Columbus at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
All-Star Ryan Johansen attempts to extend his franchise-record point streak to 14 games when the Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Minnesota Wild on Monday. Johansen has collected eight goals and eight assists during his run, including one of each in Saturday's 3-1 triumph at Boston. Matt Calvert scored twice in the final 3:03 of the third period as Columbus began its three-game road trip by snapping its four-game losing streak.
Calgary at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings look to end their disappointing homestand on a high note when they face off against the surging Calgary Flames on Monday. Los Angeles dropped five of the first six contests on its seven-game stretch at Staples Center, including a 3-2 shootout loss to Anaheim on Saturday.
New Jersey at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils attempt to make their California road trip a successful one when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Monday. New Jersey began its trek through the Golden State with a triumph at Los Angeles on Wednesday before suffering a 5-1 loss in Anaheim two nights later. Martin Havlat scored the lone goal for the Devils while Cory Schneider played just one period after being hit in the mask with a shot.
