Preview Roundups
January 16, 2017
NY Islanders at Boston 1:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins are beginning to perk up in the offensive end of the ice and Brad Marchand is playing a leading role with seven goals in his last five games. The All-Star forward hopes to continue his hot streak Monday afternoon as the Bruins host the struggling New York Islanders, who surrendered seven goals in their last contest.
Dallas at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
Two teams that have yet to sustain solid play at both ends of the ice on a consistent basis this season meet Monday afternoon, when the Dallas Stars visit the Buffalo Sabres. The Stars have won only two of their last seven games after a strong 4-0-1 stretch while Buffalo got off to a promising 3-0-1 start this month before surrendering nine goals in losses at Tampa Bay and Carolina.
Montreal at Detroit 3:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings attempt to put together a winning streak at Joe Louis Arena for the first time since October when they continue their three-game homestand Monday afternoon against the Atlantic Division-leading Montreal Canadiens. Detroit, which hasn't posted consecutive home victories since beginning the season 4-0-0 in its own building, stunned Pittsburgh on Saturday with a 6-3 triumph in the opener of the stretch in Hockeytown.
Tampa Bay at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning begin a six-game road trip that could go a long way toward determining their playoff fate when they face the Los Angeles Kings on Monday afternoon. The injury-ravaged Lightning began to put things together with points in six of seven games (4-1-2) before losing five of their last six, including a frustrating 3-1 setback against Columbus on Friday.
Winnipeg at San Jose 4:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks host the Winnipeg Jets on Monday afternoon in a matchup of two teams looking to shake off recent struggles. The Sharks have lost two in a row and are 2-4-1 in their last seven games after seeing Joe Thornton get ejected in an ugly 4-0 home loss to St. Louis on Saturday, while the Jets have dropped straight and are 1-3-1 in their last five after suffering a 3-2 overtime loss at Los Angeles.
Washington at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
With first place in the NHL now in their clutches, the Washington Capitals look to push their winning streak to double digits when they visit the Metropolitan Division-rival Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday. Washington has been downright stingy of late, posting four shutouts and allowing a total of three goals over its last six victories.
Arizona at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers try to make it three wins in a row as they continue their six-game homestand Monday against the Pacific Division-rival Arizona Coyotes. Edmonton, which is one point ahead of San Jose for second place in the Pacific, began its string at Rogers Place with a loss to the Sharks but has posted back-to-back victories over New Jersey (in overtime) and Calgary (in a shootout) to improve to 4-1-1 in its last six at home.
