Preview Roundups
January 15, 2015
NY Rangers at Boston 7:00 PM ET
Two of the hottest teams in the league resume their long-standing rivalry when the Boston Bruins host the New York Rangers on Thursday night. The Bruins are looking to match a season-high five-game winning streak against their Original Six rivals, who have been victorious in 13 of their last 15 and had their own five-game winning streak halted by the New York Islanders on Tuesday. Boston swept the series last season, winning all three matchups.
Minnesota at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild say coach Mike Yeo's job is safe - at least, for now. But Yeo remains on the hot seat as he and the Wild look to end a season-high six-game losing streak Thursday night against the host Buffalo Sabres. Minnesota was expected to be a postseason contender but has fallen out of the race in the Western Conference, while the Sabres are even worse off - having lost eight in a row to fall back into a fight with Edmonton for last in the league.
Vancouver at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks have seen their offense go limp and their fortunes follow suit after mustering just two goals during their three-game losing streak and 13 in their last eight contests (3-4-1). The Canucks look to gain a split of the first two contests of their five-game road trip when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
Montreal at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens hope their power play continues to surge when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. Montreal had gone 1-for-21 with the man advantage over its previous seven contests and failed on its first four opportunities Wednesday before converting three straight chances in the third period en route to a 3-2 victory at Columbus. Max Pacioretty and defenseman P.K. Subban combined for the three power-play goals, scoring them in a 3:53 span to erase a 2-0 deficit.
Edmonton at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to rebound from a rough two-game road trip in which they allowed 11 goals when the Edmonton Oilers pay a visit Thursday night. The Atlantic-Division Lightning have split six contests in January after a four-game winning streak and captain Steven Stamkos is warming up with five goals in his last five contests to reach 25 on the season. The Oilers, who beat Tampa Bay 3-2 on Oct. 20, are 3-3-2 in their last eight games but still have the fewest points in the league.
Colorado at Florida 7:30 PM ET
The Florida Panthers begin a five-game homestand by hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. The Avalanche are in the middle of a five-game road trip trying to improve their 7-8-6 away record. Florida, which began the 2015 calendar year on a long road trip of its own, has points in eight of its last nine home games.
Detroit at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The surging St. Louis Blues are in the midst of a dominating stretch and look to extend their winning streak to six games when they host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. The Blues have won at least five in a row on three different occasions this season, but they have barely been tested during this latest run. "We're playing much better hockey than we did then," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We were finding ways to win. We're controlling hockey games now."
Winnipeg at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
Mathieu Perreault and the Winnipeg Jets have enjoyed an offensive explosion while winning two of their last three contests. Both look to continue their respective torrid streaks when the Jets open a two-game road trip against the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
Calgary at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
Having snapped a three-game losing streak, the Calgary Flames will make the second stop on their five-game road trip against Pacific Division rivals with a visit to the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday. The Flames have been the league's most up-and-down team, sandwiching a pair of four-game winning streaks around an eight-game skid before dropping three straight at home to open the new calendar year. Calgary has won all three meetings, outscoring the Coyotes 13-5.
Toronto at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The floundering Toronto Maple Leafs seek the first goal of their four-game road trip when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. Toronto began its trek Monday with a 2-0 loss at Los Angeles and again failed to score two nights later as it dropped a 4-0 decision in Anaheim. The Maple Leafs have lost 10 of their last 13 overall contests and netted a total of two goals in their last four road games - all losses.
