Preview Roundups
January 10, 2015
Boston at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
Coming off two of their best back-to-back efforts in weeks, the Boston Bruins go for their third consecutive victory when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers in a Saturday afternoon matinee. Boston rebounded from a three-game skid (0-0-3) with a 3-2 overtime victory in Pittsburgh on Wednesday before putting forth a dominant effort in blanking visiting New Jersey the following night. Boston looks to continue its recent dominance of Philadelphia, having won the past four matchups.
Nashville at Minnesota 2:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators are sitting atop the Central Division and riding a seven-game point streak heading into a road matchup against the slumping Minnesota Wild on Saturday afternoon. Nashville's dramatic turnaround has earned first-year coach Peter Laviolette a spot behind the bench of one of the teams in the NHL All-Star Game. "When a coach gets appointed to an All-Star team, either side, I think it's a true reflection of your team," Laviolette said.
Dallas at Colorado 3:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche are in the midst of their best stretch of the season and look to continue their climb up the Central Division standings when they host the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon. The Avalanche have won seven of their last 10 and can move ahead of Dallas in the division with a third consecutive victory. "Just focus on Saturday afternoon," Colorado coach Patrick Roy said. "We’re getting closer. Everybody’s seen it."
Pittsburgh at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens attempt to begin a new winning streak when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Montreal had its six-game run snapped Tuesday as it dropped a 4-2 home decision to Tampa Bay. Dale Weise gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead late in the first period, but Carey Price yielded four tallies in the second, marking the first time he has allowed more than two since Dec. 6.
Detroit at Washington 7:00 PM ET
Captain Alex Ovechkin looks to extend his goal-scoring streak to six games when the red-hot Washington Capitals host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. Ovechkin scored seven times in the last nine contests as the Capitals continue their rise in the Eastern Conference with just one regulation loss in 16 games (11-1-4) and none in the last six (4-0-2). The Red Wings are warming up as well with two straight road victories and a 5-2-1 mark over their last eight outings.
NY Islanders at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
John Tavares is doing his best to keep the New York Islanders among the Eastern Conference elite - but he may need some help Saturday night as the team visits the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Islanders captain scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lead the Islanders to a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday for his third multi-goal performance in the last seven contests. But the Islanders could be in tough against a Columbus team that has won 12 of its previous 16 games.
Ottawa at Arizona 7:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators continue their road trip with a visit to the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. The Coyotes are in the midst of a six-game homestand, winning two of their first three to improve their disappointing home record to 9-9-3. The Senators have two contests remaining on a four-game road trip and are winless in their last three.
Carolina at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues look to continue lighting up the scoreboard when they vie for their fourth consecutive victory on Saturday against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. T.J. Oshie and Jaden Schwartz have enjoyed their team's offensive surge and extended their point streaks to a career-high seven and six games, respectively, as St. Louis has sandwiched a pair of 7-2 victories over San Jose around a 6-0 rout of Arizona.
Calgary at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
A homestand that began with promise ended with frustration for the Calgary Flames, who will look to rebound during one of their most challenging stretches of the season. The Flames kick off a five-game road trip Saturday night against a Vancouver Canucks team that has won nine straight meetings in the head-to-head series. Calgary kicked off its homestand with three straight victories but proceeded to drop the final three, including a 6-5 loss to Florida on Friday.
Winnipeg at Los Angeles 10:00 PM ET
Two struggling Western Conference teams square off Saturday, when the Los Angeles Kings continue their seven-game homestand by welcoming the Winnipeg Jets to Staples Center. Los Angeles has lost four of its last five contests (1-2-2), including each of the first two games of its lengthy stretch in its own building. Winnipeg also has dropped four of its last five (1-4-0), including a 4-1 decision at Arizona on Thursday in the opener of its three-game road trip.
NY Rangers at San Jose 10:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers are surging along, and the first two stops on their California road trip did nothing to break their stride. The Rangers vie for their fifth consecutive win and 13th in 14 games when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
