Preview Roundups
January 08, 2017
Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh 5:00 PM ET
The red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins play their first game in eight days and hope the extra rest didn't leave any rust when they host the stumbling Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. The Penguins went 12-1-2 in December, capped by a 4-3 overtime triumph over Montreal on the final day of the month, and take a four-game winning streak into the 2017 portion of the season.
Boston at Carolina 5:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes have enjoyed the comforts of home this season, as evidenced by their recent 11-game point streak at PNC Arena. The Hurricanes look to begin a similar run when they kick off a four-game homestand Sunday against the Boston Bruins.
Philadelphia at Columbus 6:00 PM ET
Just a few days ago, the league-leading Columbus Blue Jackets were on the verge of tying the NHL record for most consecutive victories. Things have changed in a hurry since then, as the Blue Jackets aim to avoid a third straight loss when they host the Metropolitan Division-rival Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
Nashville at Chicago 7:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks are healthy again and that spells trouble for the rest of the NHL as they host the Nashville Predators on Sunday. With future Hall of Famer Marian Hossa back in the fold after missing five games with an upper-body injury and goaltender Corey Crawford fully recovered from an appendectomy, first-place Chicago appears poised to extend its two-point lead on Minnesota in the Central Division and the Western Conference.
Edmonton at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers have enjoyed success on the road this season and hope to keep the victories coming when they wrap up their four-game trip Sunday against the Ottawa Senators. Edmonton improved to 2-1-0 on its trek — and 12-6-5 overall on the road this campaign — with a 2-1 overtime triumph at New Jersey on Saturday.
Minnesota at Anaheim 8:00 PM ET
Bruce Boudreau returns to Anaheim for the first time since being fired when his Minnesota Wild visit the Ducks on Sunday. Boudreau went 208-104-40 while winning four Pacific Division titles in five seasons as coach of Anaheim before moving on after last campaign, and he will bring a red-hot team to Honda Center as the Wild have lost in regulation just once since the start of December.
