Preview Roundups
January 07, 2017
Tampa Bay at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
Two teams desperately needing a victory to change their fortunes meet Saturday afternoon when the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Philadelphia Flyers. The Lightning allowed six goals in each of the last two games of an ultimately unsatisfying homestand (2-2-1) while Philadelphia posted only one victory in the last eight contests after winning 10 in a row.
Winnipeg at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets try to extend their winning streak to a season-high three games Saturday afternoon when they visit the Buffalo Sabres as Connor Hellebuyck looks to build off a strong performance in his third consecutive start. Winnipeg won the first two contests of its three-game road trip to move back to .500 on the season, scoring 10 goals in victories over Tampa Bay and Florida.
Minnesota at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild didn't let a New Year's Eve misstep trip them up as their NHL fourth-ranked offense ignited them to their 13th win in 14 outings overall and seventh straight on the road. The Wild look to add to both streaks on Saturday as they play the second contest of three consecutive against the California contingent with a visit to Staples Center to face the Los Angeles Kings.
NY Rangers at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
After coming up one victory shy of matching the longest win streak in NHL history, the Columbus Blue Jackets must quickly regroup as they await a visit from the New York Rangers on Saturday night. Columbus' stirring 16-game run ended with a thud with a 5-0 loss at Washington on Thursday -- the team's first defeat since Nov. 26.
Boston at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins are one of several teams in the Atlantic Division trying to develop consistency, and they will meet another in the same situation when they visit the Florida Panthers on Saturday. The Bruins, who have posted just five wins in their last 15 contests, begin a four-game road trip after consecutive losses to New Jersey and Edmonton dropped them out of a playoff position.
Montreal at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens will be down another key forward when they visit the red-hot Toronto Maple Leafs for an Atlantic Division showdown on Saturday. Right wing Brendan Gallagher is expected to miss about eight weeks with a broken left hand sustained in Montreal’s 4-3 overtime win at Dallas on Wednesday, but Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais are skating with the team and could return soon.
Washington at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have to be wary of an emotional letdown when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. The Capitals arrive in town on a four-game winning streak and are coming off a 5-0 thrashing of Columbus on Thursday that derailed the Blue Jackets' bid to match the longest winning streak in NHL history.
Edmonton at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers continue their stretch of four road games in six days when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Edmonton split the first two contests of its trek, dropping a 3-1 decision in Columbus on Tuesday before coming away with a 4-3 triumph in Boston two nights later.
NY Islanders at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes look to keep their winless streak from reaching double digits as they kick off a three-game homestand Saturday against the New York Islanders. Arizona suffered a 3-2 overtime loss in Anaheim on Friday to fall to 0-8-1 since recording a shootout victory at Toronto on Dec. 15.
Dallas at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
Vladimir Tarasenko has rediscovered his scoring touch in the new year, collecting three goals in two games after mustering just three during his final 13 contests of 2016. The 25-year-old Russian looks to continue his good fortune on Saturday as the St. Louis Blues play the fifth contest of their six-game homestand with the finale of their four-game season series versus the Dallas Stars.
Vancouver at Calgary 10:00 PM ET
The holiday break has appeared to do wonders for the Vancouver Canucks, who aim for their seventh consecutive victory when they wrap up a home-and-home series by visiting the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Vancouver entered the break having lost three of four contests, including a 4-1 decision in Calgary on Dec. 23, but posted a 4-2 home victory over the Flames on Friday to extend its winning streak to six games.
Detroit at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
Andreas Athanasiou answered his wake-up call of a benching by erupting for his first career three-point performance in the ensuing contest - all in one period, no less. The speedy 22-year-old forward looks to remain on the fast track Saturday as the Detroit Red Wings play the fifth contest of their season-high seven-game road trip against the San Jose Sharks.
