Preview Roundups
January 05, 2017
Edmonton at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers were unable to slow the Columbus Blue Jackets' march toward history, but they will hope for a better result when they continue their four-game road trip with a visit to the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. The Oilers became victim No. 16 in a row for the Blue Jackets in Tuesday's 3-1 loss at Columbus.
Columbus at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets watched the Washington Capitals run away with the league's best record last season and now see their Metropolitan Division rivals blocking their path to history. Columbus can match the longest winning streak in NHL history on Thursday night when it goes for its 17th consecutive victory against the host Capitals.
Nashville at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
Two somewhat disappointing teams suffering from similar problems with inconsistency and injuries meet Thursday night when the Nashville Predators visit the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nashville won back-to-back games once since Thanksgiving after a lackluster effort in the 2-1 overtime loss to Montreal on Tuesday while the Lightning followed a win with a loss for the seventh time in the last eight tries the same night.
Carolina at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
Vladimir Tarasenko mustered just three of his team-high 18 goals during the final 13 games of 2016 before tallying twice in the third period of the Winter Classic to ring in the new year. The 25-year-old Russian looks to keep the party going on Thursday as the St. Louis Blues play the fourth contest of their season-high six-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Buffalo at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks are sputtering through their worst stretch of the season but have an opportune chance to turn things around when they open a four-game homestand against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. Chicago still holds a slight edge atop the Central Division despite dropping five of its last six games (1-4-1).
Detroit at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings struggled down the stretch during their 3-4-2 road trip, dropping their last three contests (0-2-1), but bounced back by sweeping a home-and-home series versus division-leading San Jose. The Kings aim to continue their climb in the Pacific when they begin a seven-game homestand against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
Minnesota at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild enjoyed a December to remember with a staggering 12 straight wins before a lackluster performance against the league's hottest team spoiled their New Year's Eve festivities. The Wild look to rid the sour taste from their mouths and return to their winning ways on Thursday as they open a three-game road trip against all three members of the California contingent, beginning with a visit to the San Jose Sharks.
